Just been up the polling station to vote for county councillors. Spoilt my ballot paper with a big fat NONE and X across all candidates.
Shall be doing same for general election.

^I don't get that. What's the point of wasting your time going to the station? The lack of your vote would contribute to apathy stats (vote numbers). Just choose what you consider to be the lesser of two weevils. May if you want a strong party to fight our countries corner (I know it's difficult with Cameron being such a c0ck with the Brexit vote).

thats utterly pointless and nothing to be proud about, lots of parties to vote for, no point maoning about state of roads or whatever if you destroy your ballot.
i went LibDem, and that ll be the same at the GE too, Brexit is the main reason, a disaster unfolding before our very eyes.

Had no bl00dy choice. 3 candidates only. Con/Lab/Lib. I spoilt paper as it's more of a protest than not voting.
My area is full of blinkered die hard Tories. If they dug up a corpse and put it forward as a candidate they'd win. Plus there is lots of corruption at council level down here. So protest I will as is my democratic right.

yeah i do uderstand as in cornwall, its a die hard Tory area, so libdem, they ve a small chance, Lab have none.
Its the big prob with fptp, see it with the ref vote, 48% of the electorate totally ignored.

fairly soon, unless you r conservative, voting for anyone else will be pointless, democracy in action!

i ve have wondered if i ll vote this time round, low voter turn out is something that does make the headlines.

You r ignored unless you support the winning party, the 2 policies you mention are examples of poor government but i m not sure why you link the 2 to fptp or not voting

Well it looks like Tory voters are continuing to vote Tory, regardless of their Brexit view - the Kippers all now voting Tory (since they are 90% kipper policy anyway) and the left vote is split.

The Pension Triple Lock was a vote winner for the Tories in the past elections. But TM has stated that it is likely to be abandoned. I suspect that many retirees and those approaching said age voted Tory because of this. I suspect that if it is scrapped in the next term, then we will see a change in voter direction.

For those of you that would rather not vote in a Tory heartland because it is a waste of time trying to overturn it, please spoil your paper. I read on Sky News that one of their political correspondents stated it is better to spoil your paper than not turn up. It shows that you care and are active in politics but 'None of the Above' actually stand for or listen to your concerns.

It shows that even if they think Brexit is bad, it is better option than the other choices :)

Or maybe Brexit is bad is just remain hyperbole?

I think that's the case. I think Goo is right, a spoilt paper does indicate more than just total apathy. You care enough to go and vote but can't vote for anyone, a pretty sorry state of affairs.
Even the new Tory slogan hasn't put people off.

It's not but council voting gernally reflects national voting trends. How otherwise do you explain the rise and now crash of the UKIP vote?

Not really, Council elections are often used as a protest vote and also independent candidates are a much bigger factor. Labour have lost some heartland Councils in Wales to Independent candidates, it's probably a protest against Corbyn but come the GE I can't see an Independent taking the respective seats and I doubt the Labour voters would be able to bring themselves to vote Tory.

UKIP were the ultimate protest vote, they gave the 'working man' a chance to protest against 'people coming over here taking their jobs' and right wing little Englanders who felt the Tories weren't right wing enough a chance to show their displeasure and it worked on the Tories as they ended up pledging the fateful referendum to fight the threat. UKIPs strong showing at the last local elections was certainly not reflected in the GE result.

Leaving aside the rather shaky correlation between local and national elections, Sky predict a 48 seat majority for May based on this. If that's remotely correct, that's not much of a win.

Yes, the consensus seems to be they have a bigger edge in a national vote ([cynic] because the effects of their badly thought out policies are more distant and so less obvious[/cynic]) than they do on a local level.

I just heard a woman on the news saying she changed her vote in the Council elections from UKIP last time to Tory this time as she felt the Tories will be stronger in the Brexit negotiations. I'm not heavily into politics but despair that a voter cannot determine the difference between local and general elections. I won't use it to draw a conclusion on the intelligence of former UKIP and Brexit voters though!

Bit of dancing round the edges on the local council results going on here. The bottom line is it was a bloody good set of results for the conservatives.

I'm sticking by my prediction of a 100+ seat majority at the GE.
