    All this discussion for nothing.

Again I stand corrected. It is here to stay whether you like it or not.

I myself intend to buy one in 3-4 years time. I have been waiting for the tech to come around for many years already. Just a matter of time.

So far all the Road and MTB bikes have massive battery and hence make it heavy. I am quite fit but I also don't mind a bit assist when I don't feel like pedaling too hard and want to enjoy more of the down than the up. If I enjoy up then I might as well ride my road bike up some mountain.

I want small battery, very light weight and just give me a very slight power for a small amount of time. Hopefully those will come soon thats affordable.
  • To be perfectly honest, I think the comments on the 'lazy' people getting ebikes instead is probably wrong* as if they are lazy, riding a bike of any type will not interest them.
There is a place for them (regarding trail use), old(er) people, disabled people, injury rehabilitation perhaps.
I rode one and enjoyed it. That being said, I wont be buying one.

    * Disclaimer: I could well be wrong myself!

Some of you talk about motorized vehicle destroys land?

Mountain Biking Park Wales they do these lefts with huge trucks with massive torque to bring people and bikes up the mountain and so those are ok but not electric bikes? Not sure the logic of argument there.

Those lift services are so damn expensive and yet it is fully booked so it proofs but people just want to come down.

If there is a way to get me that mountain faster and quicker I will do it for less money and I am sure all those that goes to Mountain bike park wales will want the same. People que for an hour just go get the lift.

Without lift I can probably do maximum 2 runs down but with lift I can do 5 in a day. I sure don't want to waste energy riding up when I just want to come down that park. It is great fun.

I was at swinely forest last week and saw a Habib electric mountain bike. I must say though I was being a snob and thought loser for riding a electric bike.

I was torn. Not sure why I feel that when I am not against electric bikes but I didn't like to see them on the trail but at the same time I would like to buy one myself in the future. Funny.

I've never waited for an hour for an uplift at BPW. Rarely have I had to wait 15 minutes (thought it can often seem like and hour).

Thats because you had the pass?

Those without pass have to wait till the ones with pass have gone first at BPW.

Nope. At fire roads. With MTB coming down you don't have problem with torque anyway you hardly pedal.

The fifteen minute waits were when I didn't have a pass.

I think you miss my general point. Apart from trail centres with uplifts, most of us ride up things.

Even without a pass, on a busy, sunny Sunday I've never waited more than 15 minutes for a lift at Bike Park Wales.

I must have gone during school holiday. I wished that were the case where I didn't have to wait for that long. Anyway. E bike for me hopefully in 3-4 years time or a bit longer.

    Heya,

I know you all are mountain/road bike gurus here so I I was wondering whether I could pick your brain about an ebike I intend to buy.

I am currently living in Spain and had a look online. Apart from the skyrocket prices, I found these http://www.biboobikes.com/bicicletas-el ... s/montana/ but cannot justify the price :/

I am not an expert but the for the stated price the quality must be perfect - or not?

    Thank you in advance :D
    Greetings from sunny Spain.

Really interesting. Thanks for the post.
  • My opinion is that only the trails need changing: trails are currently made with normal MTBs in mind. Making trails designed for both would be favouring one over the other, so I think cannot be really done.

With the E-bike, it also means there are more things to go wrong, so more things to learn how to fix. I don't know the construction, but perhaps it could lead to more carrying around their bikes on trails.

More weight, more design needed for weight distribution (which has probably been managed and catered for already) would be the practical hurdle.

Maybe Downhill E-bikers could finally mean their bikes are cycled uphill!

If someone is able to prove that I exercise the right muscles in the right way on an E-bike, then I don't have an issue with it (and I think this has already been proven).

Personally, the trails the way they are now, I would stick to normal MTBs.
  • My opinion is that only the trails need changing: trails are currently made with normal MTBs in mind.

E-bikes are not faster than the fastest of riders, except in climbs. They really don't need their own trails.
The controversy of e-bikes on man built/maintained trails is when someone comes with a jailbreak for these bikes and allows them to surpass their programmed speed limit. At that point, the e-bike is essentially a moped (at least as far as speed and power goes) and has absolutely no place on the trails.

Most of us are not the "fastest of riders".
