Latest Rachman Review (available on Spotify) on the global food programme is good if extremely bleak. Head of the UN food programme explaining the problems, short and medium term.

Makes a good point that when if comes to big food shortages, those who can afford usually pays for it in one way or another - either cheaply by donating food and assisting the problem or expensively when they migrate because else they starve to death.

Short term is a big problem - a lot more acute than the build up to Arab spring with around 43 countries with serious starvation problems problems.

(The actual podcast sounds a bit weird as the Head who is doing the talking an American from the Deep South and the folksy way he talks jars a little with the topic)

    Do you ever have fun?

True. It’s a shitsitch but it’s not the apocalypse and it’s very unlikely to be innit. Russia is going to make some gains, just by force of size. Why is this surprising?

Apparently the Russian effort to make a small encirclement has stalled.

A fair few qualified military and ex military folk had already predicted this would happen a wee while ago. What we’re seeing is an all out push to take a tiny bit of ground (relative to the size of Ukraine) before Ivan breaks down and he’s f@cked for months. They’re now using T-64s from the early 70s and 80s and trying to get 50 year olds to sign up.

On the subject of the T-64. It’s a four man tank, Ivan doesn’t have any four man crews. Hasn’t needed them since the aforementioned 70s/80s. They’re scrounging around for loaders to make the numbers. Total clusterf@ck.

T-64 is a three man tank (with autoloader) - unless you are confusing it with the T-62, which was the last Soviet MBT with a manual loader/4th crew member.

Either way, I don't want to be in it when they fire state of the art 2022 weapons systems at it.

Will we get the first true photo of a UAP/UFO? Akin to what the US naval fighter pilots observed close to the Nimitz?

I see the BBC have picked up on the story.

Russia is believed to be using 50-year-old tanks in its efforts to occupy territory in southern Ukraine.

It's mobilising T-62 vehicles to bolster its Southern Grouping of Forces, according to a morning update from the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MoD).

These vehicles are thought to be "particularly vulnerable to anti-tank weapons" and signal a shortage of "modern, combat-ready equipment".

    Really? Who would have thought?

The only thing they would be good for should the come into range of Ukrainians is target practice.

What's the point in having tanks not on the front line, just to intimidate the local population?

Yes and to defend held ground, use as mobile artillery, IDF, loads of stuff.

Also send the new stuff to do the fighting - this frees up new stuff from the above to doing front line stuff.

Also means that spare parts are directed solely to fighting vehicles not ones cutting around residential areas.

I don't know why they don't make tree costumes and move about as trees? They could hang their weapons on the branches and rest and move as a forest.

There are lots of trees about to blend into, but with a tank another tank is also a target, not so good.

This would require some further investigation mind.

I was going to use this method of protection when it goes full tonto, if I am unfortunate enough to survive a good nukin. Now though, knowing this is a historic evasive tactic I ain't going to bother.
