I don’t do much photo-processing, but last night was tinkering with image stacking using an online stacker, as I haven’t got Lightroom.
I can understand bracketing using separate images, but tried stacking the same image.
The first pic is original(JPEG), second same image stacked 3X, third is the 3X image stacked 3X.
The fairly bland first image is enhanced. You can see individual tiles on the small roof. It almost looks like HDR or increased resolution.
The compression on BR leaves the changes less dramatic, but still detectable.

Anyone else see a giant sun this evening? Most peculiar.

just flicking through all of your efforts and well done chaps

One explanation for the size of the sun is that it is an optical illusion created by it being so low in the sky that it gives it scale.

Thanks. I think you are correct with it being an optical illusion. It was just that particular evening it looked huge (still talking about the sun here). People were stopping their cars at the side of the road to view.

There seems to be a strange effect around the trees in the centre of the shot, it almost looks like they've been cut out and stuck on another background.

I had the same thing with a freakishly large moon

Rarely do you get such a mirror image on that loch due to it's exposure.
Only wish I had a decent camera and made a better shot.

Perfect. That's one hairy octopus. Looks like you've got some sunshine. Just grey all day here and rain tomorrow. I think the motor-caravanists chose the wrong place to come this weekend.

Depth of field not perfect, so some of the hairs not as sharp as I'd have liked, but it'll do for a lazy photographer. All I did was reduce the gamma to take out the dark background... the contre jour sunlight did the rest.

Still quite bright in these parts and plenty of spring colour coming through at last

Would have liked to get both the swan and it's reflection in focus but it was too far away and I didn't have a tripod to zoom in so had to rely on cropping and didn't get to see the image properly until then

I am a truly awful photographer. An innate ability to turn a view that took my breath away into a bland image.

Anyhow, took this on my run this morning.

To be fair to you, open water is difficult, as it's often featureless. I've never got a picture I like of Grisedale Tarn - it's a magnificent view from the far side, but there's just this big dead area in the middle of the photo, unless it's dead calm and you've got reflections.

Really starting to notice how bad the forum is at handling images. Mine from today look way brighter or over exposed than on my phone I do also find that the images look great in the editing software on the phone but not as good in the gallery once the edits are saved.

Apart from the horrible compression on images uploaded to BR (you're much better linking a URL to an image hosting place somewhere else), you also have to consider that phones often artificially enhance colours to make them seem more vibrant, and that laptop screens usually need tweaking to make them vaguely correctly colour-balanced. Unless you've got an expensive laptop with a properly calibrated screen, it's really hard to tell how good photos are.

tl;dr - even without BR's terrible image hosting, phones and laptops have a number of drawbacks for assessing images.

If I was in Scotland, I'd describe today's weather as dreich. Good for some long exposure, though.

Not much inspiration here, but was pleased to get a snap of tricky-to-find-in-Topsham Lily of the Valley for my French correspondents (it's a centuries-old French May Day tradition)

Maybe the BR software doesn't like the word 'Dreich'.

Just been playing around with that online HDR stacking tool that I mentioned before. https://conversion-tool.com/hdrmerger/
Again, I only used the original image (not 3 separate bracketed ones) uploaded 3 times. It really worked wonders on the shadows without blowing out the outside sky.

Just treated myself to a Sony DSLR off eBay, if I get some use out of it I will then probably get people to give me money towards a new mirrorless for my big birthday in a few months.

Nice start this morning, not often up this time of day lately. Phone pic, cup of tea in dining room.
