Looked like it was a good sunset last night, caught the tail end when walking the dogs but I'm on higher ground so not the best for photographing it.
There wasn't quite enough high clouds where I was, and the sun set behind some low clouds.
I don't know if you've been, but you might get some good shots around the Bosherton lily ponds and Broad Haven south beach.https://nationaltrust.org.uk/stackpole/trails/bosherston-lily-ponds-freshwater-magic-walk
Heading there today, I got the photo I took there a few years ago (below) turned into a 1000 piece Jigsaw back at the start of lockdown but still haven't finished it!

Bosherston was a bit disappointing as a lot of the trees were still fairly bare and the Lillie's haven't bloomed yet. Did see a heron flying back to its nest with a fish and feeding a chick but would have needed a decent zoom for that.

The coast path from Barafundle to Broad Haven was idyllic though, one of those days I assume the professionals use for brochures

Final one has gone all wrong - exposure, or into the sun?

    Into the sun I think.

That's the kind of shot where HDR would help, if you've got it... though basic HDR on cheaper phones is a pretty horrible and brutal compromise.

Played about with the light balance, exposure and contrast a bit and it has improved it. The sky and sea didn't have a huge contrast though.

Certainly better, though I never cease to be amazed at the processing our brains do to reduce contrast, which cameras struggle to cope with.

    Definitely the sun position.
Put your hand over the sky (or scroll up) and the shot improves dramatically.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I've been experimenting with more night sky shots and definitely get the best results when ISO is at its highest as well as the longest possible exposure time (3200 and 30" on my phone). The ultrawide lens option works best as it captures a greater area and more stars but reduces the maximum exposure to 20". I do have to play around with the images afterwards as the sky ends up grey. It's amazing how many stars get captured that the naked eye doesn't register.

What I now need to do is find a subject so the stars are just a backdrop. I was going to drive over to Carew Castle but had a couple of glasses of wine so couldn't. I suspect it may also be floodlit at night or that there will be too much ambient light.

I won't bother posting tonight's images as they look almost like plain black squares with the compression on here.

Assuming you have some control over exposure compensation try -1 and -2.
Cameras of all sorts try to expose the overall scene to a mid grey* which explains your results.

*Mid grey is the common term from B&W but it is equally applicable to colour where the mid tone is blue sky, grass or the palm of a hand as examples. (In simple terms).

Just grabbed out of the train window but last night's sunset was majestic.

Have just discovered that to override the stupid forum coding that displays portrait shots on their sides, I need to rotate the photo twice and resave, then upload. See the Paris thread...

I think it's the forum software trying to read the original file info but misinterpreting it, and editing the file overrides it.

Nice! Definitely worth keeping it in colour with a jumper that bold.

Since Ben has gone all colour on us, I'm going to go all B&W. Not sure it works, but worth a try.

Back to the light polluted suburbs now so no more stars. I could photograph our one neighbour's garden but you think I'd got off on a drug induced arty tangent.

More Phrench photography... this time, interesting that this photo worked out well with the light being 'contre jour'... I'd thought it might be disappointing, but there''s enough reflected light to illuminate, without the problem of direct sun creating deep shadow and obscuring detail. thankfully there was a well-placed tree to obscure direct sun into the lens, and the sunshine also caught the water in the fountain. It's a bit tourist-brochurey, with the wide angle too.

Home to a bit of colour in the garden today. Managed to keep the weeds out of shot. I empathise with the tulips that are so fat they can't stand upright!

Toyed with the idea of hanging around for sunset, but too long a wait.
