Oh and i'll add, the pale light going through the windows and the shadow it creates on the wall. It's just lovely the more I look at it.
Another one I put on the Topsham FB group has been popular, and then I realised that it too has shadowed light, both through the phone box, and through the street light, showing on the wall.

I think picture you were commenting on, I'm also drawn in by the fact that you can see the sky through the two windows lined up through their top floor.
True. Windows tend to end up as black rectangles; it's unusual to be able to see into and through a building.

Nearly right, not quite in the Alpes, but not far away. Its taken in the Swiss Jura, about 20 miles to the south of Basel. From a bit higher up the hill, you do get a good view of the Alpes though.

Aha, I've done the French Jura on my way to Annecy, but didn't see any views, as it was in a big thunderstorm, and we were close to hypothermic on the descent and with eyes stinging. It was the only time I've been pleased to find a Macdonalds.

Rather nice - some local folk on Facebook have been enjoying my photos of Topsham, so I've offered use of them to Hospiscare if they want to do cards/calendar etc. for fund-raising. It helps when you live somewhere scenic and are passing the scenes every day - if you have a passable eye for composition, and lots of opportunities to take photos, you sometimes get lucky.

That's brilliant. I'd love someone to want to use my photos. :)

It's helped in this case by being in quite a community community that a lot of people feel affection for (its Facebook Page has over 2000 members), and that's also pretty. I just snapped this one of the train station yesterday, and in 24 hours it got 100+ likes.

  • This may sound like a sarky comment, but it's not intended to be - I do like your other pics.

The protest one - where/what is the focal point? It all seems a bit blurry?

A Slight tangent. If you are all for animal welfare then why glorify the wearing of fur, even if fake? Plastic protester.

Ditto Grace Dent blathering about how great it was that veganism was threatening universally evil British livestock farmers, and a couple of weeks earlier filling social media with pictures of her new dog, which she'll need to feed meat to avoid malnourishment. Sorry, completely off topic.

  • I've shunned the Facebook 'invites' to do a black-&-white photo for seven days, mostly because I don't think in b&w normally, but also because photos converted from colour normally look just like they've been converted from colour.

But I think this one works: B&W excels at shapes & shades (especially dramatic ones), and the original was barely in colour, the focus being the clouds and the silhouette of the castle & trees. It was tweaked to be more contrasty.

    bw.jpg

Amazing pictures, by the way! Loved how the black & white made beautiful compositions with the clouds. Where can I see more of that?
