Excellent light for photography today but I was on my bike. Struggled to spot a subject and didn't want to get off my bike to find one. As good as it got...

Thanks. The Night shot mode is doing most of the work. Most are at Kew Gardens, except the one at St Saviours Wharf near Tower Bridge.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

Some of the auto settings on modern devices are awesome at capturing specific scenes. A long way from my OM-1 days. Trial and mostly error (and that was a costly pursuit).rjsterry said:Thanks. Been quiet on here recently which is presumably due to the weather. This sums things up in my area, rivers nearly overflowing and chocolate brown water.

Glad to get back on the bike to try out the bad back today. Nice day frit. Back survived intact.

A bit more playing with the night shot setting.

A nice morning for a sunrise. 😎
Opinions please. I took the second one for the colours and only noticed the geese when processing. Which is better of second and third as I am conflicted?
The second one with open space for the geese to fly into, or the third cropped version. 🤔

I'd go for the third one at this size, as I like to be able to see the formation of the geese, as well as all the colours. and I don't think the moon adds enough to the first one to make the composition really work.0

I prefer the cloud formation in number two but agree that it needs the extra zoom to get the formation of geese (I also like that it increases the proportion of the yellowy orange shade). On my phone I couldn't see the geese at all.0

You can see full size if you click on the image but you're probably right.briantrumpet said:I'd go for the third one at this size, as I like to be able to see the formation of the geese, as well as all the colours. and I don't think the moon adds enough to the first one to make the composition really work.
The first one would be boring without the moon, I think. All opinions are valid. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Second seems more balanced. Not sure the forum is doing the geese any favours.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

Cheers! As above, full view versions are available.rjsterry said:Second seems more balanced. Not sure the forum is doing the geese any favours.
More for future reference - Pay attention to what's in the viewfinder! 😉The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

A waterfall shot from the weekend when I wasn't stuck at this PC pretending to work. 😉
Not bad for hand held.

Hopefully worth the 20 minutes of agony once I got back to my car and my fingers started to warm back up! Keeper's Pond at the top of The Tumble climb. No chance to check a composition in that light, just had to point it in the general direction and see what came out.
I, for one, appreciate your agony, thanks Pross: your pain, our pleasure!0 -
I'd say so, yes.
Can I suggest gloves?1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

I did have some but it was a pain taking them on and off. Need some with the removable finger. I didn’t realise quite how windy it was going to be.rjsterry said:I'd say so, yes.

When I've done marshalling for time trials, I've always underestimated how many layers I'll need to stay warm. One of the older hands always carries about half a dozen extra coats in the back of her car for idiots like me. You quickly get cold when you're just standing there.0 -
I recently got a pair from Vallarret. Not the cheapest but I suffer from poor circulation so I’m prepared to cough up for recommended kit.Pross said:

Thanks, just looked at those. They might be worth the investment (although I’m prone to losing a glove from any new pairs so may need to tie them to elastic through my sleeves!).pblakeney said:

They do have connectors, as does one of my jackets. 🤣Pross said:

The biggest surprise to me on those photos from last night (other than they came out fairly well) is the amount of what I assume is light pollution. To the naked eye all I could see was a bit of foreground and some of the stars, certainly nowhere near as many as the photos pick up though. There was no sign of lighting over than from my headtorch and one car in the car park when I first arrived (kept flashing their lights to me for some reason ). I think the glow must be from Abergavenny which is probably 4km or so away in a straight line with Blaenavon around 1km behind me. I'm not sure where the light is coming from on the second photo down though as there isn't much in that direction. It's impressive how much light a camera can suck in during a 30" exposure.0
