We should petition the UCI to scrap the Vuelta, move the Tour back to August and create a summer classics season.

    Date night.
Taxi arrived before the race finished.

    When was Dan Martin dropped?

By my very rough and merlot infused checking that was only the 2nd time Froome has raced over 230km in 3 years
(1 stage of this years tour the previous being LBl 2013)

I reckon the bang mentioned earlier was Sagan's TV going out the hotel window.

Great race, enjoyed every minute from 90km to go, sad about Nibali, Henao and Thomas

I'm more interested in Froome's form because Contador seems to be better every day. And Froome performed at a decent level, the best from the top 10 of the TdF

If Froome wins the Olympic ITT i would take that as a upward form towards the 2nd peak of the season, in which case we could have a good Contador - Froome duel in Vuelta.

Bertie had a couple of days in bed and was right as rain, Froome completed (& won) the TDF then went on a bender/promo tour/Olympics - if Bertie doesn't beat Froome in the Vuelta he needs a good swift kick to the nuts.

Yeah it should be a repeat of 2014 in terms of Contador and Froome's relative ability.

    Poor consolation for Contador though.

    Henao - fractured Iliac
    Porte - fractured scapula
    Nibali - fractured clavicle

a great race but not sure we would want that to be the price of a one dayer

Apparently Dan Martin thought he was possibly sprinting for a medal.

Nibz breaking both collarbones is impressive.

Not good, but it's all part of pro professional bike riding, isn't it? It's not as if the riders weren't aware of the risks.

I thought it was one collar with two fractures?

Please, don't post images like that. No reason for it, and I for one really don't want to see them.

Anyone know what odds GvA was at the start of the day?

Not sure but I jumped on him at 25-1 with about and hour or so to go when I saw he was still with the favourites group. If it was al together ish with a couple of km to go he was always in with a massive shout.

The thread title I think is generic.

Track events, WRR, TT, the lot?

On another note, GB refused to give press interviews after yesterday's race.

There's not a lot of point really.

The media declare Froome a favourite, then Froome doesn't win, so the media blame Froome for not meeting their daft predictions. (In reality Thomas did everything GVA did until he crashed, and it was actually Froome's best result in a major one day race).

Are they under any obligation to?

I was thinking if I was a professional, I wouldn't speak to journalist either. Especially those lowlife tabloid journo scum who have an biased agenda and put a spin on events or take what you say out of context.

I don't think anyone thought the men's RR would be sufficiently interesting to generate 20 pages of discussion. I'd vote for a new thread.

Geraint doing an interview on the BBC 1 show soon apparently.
  • No reason not to do a press conference... nothing to be downbeat about, it was a really brutal race, and that last downhill!
Concentration levels all over the place, I'm just glad, despite the serious injuries there were none worse! Crome & Thomas both gave everything, and Thomas especially was very unlucky to miss out on a medal chance. Fingers crossed for TT and women and track events.

Sounds like Thomas could do the TT too.

Windy and mist in the hills so will be dodgy for WRR.

Good interview with him, top bloke.
