Rio Olympics *Spoilers*
Alright folks, that's enough doping chat... we've got some racing ahead of us...
Starting 1.30pm tomorrow we've got the men's race. What's the thinking? Small breakaway on the descent and a mad sprint to the line or a Froome solo to prove all the doubters they are wrong?
Then will we see Armitstead and PFP take chunks out of each other on Sunday.
Wednesday we have the TTs. Double dutch maybe?
And onto the track... there's 6 days from 11-16 August to get stuck into... Friday, 12th, is the day that RR's dreams come true while Blazing is on tenderhooks from 13th onwards.
And I don't give a monkeys about Sagan on the MTB or those little bikes... but feel free to discuss...

Especially the timings, plenty of evening watching on the track, fits in well with feeding cats
And runs nicely up to La Vuelta.

I'd like to watch Sagan in the MTB. Will be interesting as I know nothing about the sport.
I've gone for Valverde in PTP in order to hedge my bets, but I suspect someone will solo to victory whilst the rest of the a group look at each other.0 -

Fan boy
Yeah... I'm inclined to agree... though it's quite a haul from the bottom of the descent to the finish line, non?0 -
Local food update.
Highly recommended snack: Pão de Queijo
Standard meal: meat, rice, beans and farofa.
Unique dining convention in Brazil: eating by weight

Indeed, I'm expecting a group to make it over the climb together and someone to attack 2km-10km from the finish. Perhaps a Cummings or Kwiatkowski style rider. All the favourites can then look at Valverde.0 -

Those places are amazing - I ate pretty much my entire body weight in beef during the time I was there.0 -
More Brazlian info.
Breakfast is called "morning coffee", or frequently just "coffee". Sometimes, if you are lucky, there is actual food. A tricky place if you like tea and something solid in the morning. Obviously clarifying what might be available for breakfast is easy given its name.
The currency is the Real - pronounced "hey-ow". Plural is Reais pronounced "hey-ice". Spot the correspondents that actually get out of the bubble, by whether they notice it is not Spanish.
Right, is everyone in the mood? Probably some photos of Copacabana would be more of a hit.0 -
Yes the only way Valverde will contribute to a chasing group is if Purito is the one who attacks ![Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0

Ah c'mon. You're having a laugh“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -
The top of the last climb comes 14.8km from the finish. The descent looks to be about 1/3 of this distance so probably about 9km of flat/rolling.0

I'm really not. Rs are pronounced like Hs. Rio is much more like Hio. Recife is more like Hecife etc.
Ls are all swallowed at the end. So while the word might be the same as Spanish e.g. facil for easy, the L gets swallowed.0 -

It looks further than that on the profile which is not exactly the most reliable way of determining things, if it is only 9km of flat that might change things.0 -
Is beach volleyball still an Olympic sport?0
-
Really tough one to call
A 2nd and 3rd place being worth so much more than normal adds an extra dimension too0 -

Have a look at this.

Whats the craic with equipment?
I know most will be riding team bikes but I noticed a picture on twitter of Nibz in Rio riding a Spesh TT bike with Lightweight wheels. Obviously Astana ride Corima wheels, is it because he's leaving at the end of the season so doesn't need to worry about keeping sponsors happy?0 -
I can attest to the Brazilian Portuguese pronunciation.
Correlation is not causation.0 -

Judging from the Newport photos on the track GB seemed to be on Campag discs, dont know if this is because it has tested fastest or because the Mavic Comete rubs on the Cervelo frames, which was an issue with the T4 in some sizes in the past.0 -

Fairly common at the Olympics and Worlds to use non-trade team kit. Viviani rode Lightweights in Richmond last year.
Actually, a lot of teams use Lightweight discs throughout the year anyway:

Now LA and PFP have lost their lustre, I really hope Jolanda Neff wins the Road Race. There is almost no chance, but if it happens it would have to be a proper #epic early attack, willshe/won't she hold off the group over the hills type victory and that would be proper bo.
Bean - I ll try and be here for the MTB so i can explain it - think of it as a CX race though and you re more or less there. Sagan will have to on insane form/very lucky to beat Absalon or Schurter thoughWe're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence
- @ddraver0 -
I don't think I've heard the phrase "proper bo" since the mid-2000s
