Probably because it's the same towns that agree to pay for it. Plus only certain roads are considered safe/suitable for whatever reason.

Looks blowy and slow. Peloton in a big long line, gap to the break is 5 mins.

Plus if the roads have been done before then it presumably gives local authorities more authority when dealing with road closures and potential conflict with people who may be inconvenienced - ie, "we've done this before and know what impact it will have".

Well that was a horrible turn of phrase. Any Defenders of the English Language presumably are now legally entitled to execute me on sight.

  • Well Wiggo's CV is now complete - he's ridden as close to my house as he's ever going to get (100 yards) and has ridden roads on which I've been dropped repeatedly on club runs. Who needs the Olympics after this?

I'm watching on the PC in the office today. Really enjoying it as this bit is going through a lot of our standard club run areas. That bridge in Cawood is a good example :)

Pissing down where I am, and the snow has stopped.

Haven't decided where to watch tomorrow yet, and Sunday's club run will probably change to take it in somewhere.

Good looking part of the world.

Though the regular 17%+ ramps do make them look amateur! Looks a lot more like the club run! :D

Tough climb that (for a fat knacker like myself anyway) - lovely looping back down towards Harrogate though, not so sure about the road to Settle (and I have never ridden it in conditions like today's either!)

The wind across the top there looked quite something. They almost had the resigned demeanor of working stiffs riding to work on a particularly unpleasant Monday morning.

Moto cameraman needs to be further up the road. Too often riders are having to brake to avoid him.

Why does Wiggins even bother turning up?

Ah the non cycling fans here are gutted.

I'm amazed he even signed on! The combination of being a southerner by birth and a Lancastrian by naturalisation was never likely to prepare him for the mean roads of Yorkshire. :)

The Katusha kit is an interesting shade of red. Never seen bib shorts that colour before, quite like it.
