It's only a prologue, people are doing other stuff, but I'm a bit surprised that no-one can even be bothered to say how much they dislike today's winner.

Impressive showing by Richie Porte, given what he looked like a few weeks ago.

My man Boonen moaning about the un-tarmaced finish tomorrow.

"I didn't become a cyclist to race on sand roads. If i wanted to race on sand, I'd have stayed doing cross'".

"This isn't a one day race like Strade Bianche where you chose specifically for those roads. Then you take a team who wants to ride it, with guys who are motivated."

"This is Paris-Nice, a World Tour race. [well observed Tom] Riders going for general classification will just sit. They won't want to lose any time and so that will make for a nervous race. That's a shame."

Some one tell Teijs Benoot to give Boonen and Cancellara a slap...

For a supposedly flat stage there was some out of saddle action.

I'm both surprised and not surprised to see bling win that, it was after all a very short prologue, probably quite suited to his physique rather than a pure TTer

I'm surprised he didn't do the Tour down under!

I'll pass the message through my intermediary tomorrow!
"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

We discussed it then... he was getting married around that time.

BTW what is this about an un-tarmaced finish tomorrow. Should I not be picking Kittel for PTP? What is the state of the finish?

Yeah, i ve been worried about that too....to paraphrase a popular christmas film "Can lightning sprint on gravel?"

    Ah, fair enough.

Yeah, just how unsurfaced is unsurfaced? Are we talking Strade Bianche unsurfaced or British B road unsurfaced where it's just bad tarmac

Apparently there is snow at the start, cross winds throughout plus the gravel section with 25km to go.

It should be fun today (for us watching that is)

    1. MATTHEWS M. OGE 07' 39''
    2. DUMOULIN T. TGA 00' 01''
    3. BEVIN P. CPT 00' 02''
    4. HERRADA J. MOV 00' 06''
    5. IZAGUIRRE I. MOV 00' 06''
    6. WESTRA L. AST 00' 07''
    7. THOMAS G. SKY 00' 07''

Yesterday's results and thus the overall.

This is the roadbooks itinerary/timing - the two sections (both repeated) in colour are the stretches of non-tarmac (I think)

OK - Done a bit of google-fu. Here are the two non-paved sections and they look pretty sketchy

    Part 1 Chemin de Torteline
    24955109533_b9f9b576e7_b.jpg

Part 2 Chemin de Tertre de la Motte
    25581797835_6fe6ef2c66_b.jpg

And I kid you not; that second road is used in preference to a road called Rue Risque-Tout - which I think sums up the likelihood of a flying peleton making it to the end

*Raises head feebly and reaches for TV Guide*

Innrg says there's a muur as well.

Guess I'll have to put off dying just a little while longer after all.
