remixes don't count as a cover? Explain the difference.

Surely a remix, if the song is largely in tact, is just a different approach and arrangement of the same song?

they're just changing the backing track, arrangement, tempo etc.

The original artist is still at the heart of the performance.

A cover, is a cover, a different artist is doing their version of it.
I feel you're doing down electronic music and DJs down here.

    Remix of a cover version.

(I think the cover version is better than the original, and the remix better than both.)

Takes too long to get going IMO. A shorter version of the remix may well be the best of the lot but what do I know... 😉
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Don't know what you mean - it's only 5 minutes in that it stops completely for about 20 seconds before the singing starts.

IMO the "intro" is too long, drawn out and repetitive without variation.
It is just my opinion though and I like progression or variation. Each to their own.

  • Hey now - London grammar (arty remix). I would love if they could do something similar to Billie eilish - everything I wanted.
  • Smokey Robinson and the Miracles recorded the first version of "I heard it through the grapevine". Not sure if that makes Marvin Gaye's version a cover.

Dream a Little Dream of Me by Mama Cass. A opposed to Doris Day and Ozzie Nelson.
  • Something stupid - Robbie Williams and Kylie.

    I actually quite like it!

Yeah it's ok but doesn't compare the Frank and Nancy's version IMHO.
  • It's fine, but the original is something else. Gives me tingles.

It is. And if I'm honest I prefer the original due to Spectors production. I just wanted to post for Lee Hazelwoods fine moustache.
  • This made me go and seek out other versions of this with Cait o'Riordan. What a voice.

Here's one (not sure if I've posted on this thread): "Wil Horses" by The Sundays was much better than the Rolling Stones' original.
But then, most 'Stones' songs are improved by covers. See: "No Expectations" by Soulsavers.

It's just a hill. Get over it.

Wild Horses by Susan Boyle was seriously good as well. Seriously.

I remember when the film version of Les Mis came out and Nicky Campbell asked whether the version of I Dreamed A Dream by Anne Hathaway was as good as the Susan Boyle version as though that was the definitive performance of it when it has been sung by pretty much all of the world's best female musical theatre performers (and some of the male ones). I couldn't tell if he was being sarcastic.

Yeah, that's not the best version of that, but I seriously think her version of wild horses is the best I've heard.

you said "Wild Horses", but i read "Crazy Horses".

I would love to hear Susan Boyle sing Crazy Horses, doing the synth noise herself.

I once said the same on another forum, and was roundly lambasted for it!

I heard the Prelude version first, and I didn't realise there was another version for years (it's so easy in the days of the internet to find things out like that). I still think this version is superior musically, Neil Young sounds like he couldn't carry the tune in a bucket in comparison.

(have to say I think the Travis cover of ...Baby one more Time* does work a bit better than that one tho)
