Think 2016 will be the year we see a solid french podium place on one of the GT's, so with that in mind, I will have

    Tony Gallopin - french

Romain Bardet - french podium contender?

    Cedric Moynard - french

    Mikael Cherel - french

Julian Alaphilippe - one to watch for classics

Alejandro Valverde - something made me like him last year, don't prove me wrong senor!

    Zdenek Stybar - paris roubaix

Tom Dumoulin - confidence can do wonders

Mikel Landa - fantastic support role at vuelta

Want to say my man at least once this year, having previously felt completely left out :D

Must have had one of my dopy days, as Cedric Moynard, that great french cyclist doesn't actually exist! Although ask me any other time and I would have swore he did. Good spot by all those who noticed that. :o

So in comes titchy Ritchie, because he makes me smile and he deserves a bit of support

    Out: Cedric Moynard
    In: Ritchie Porte

I think we should all be allowed 1 French rider who doesn't exist in our lists. Some might argue that in terms of results, most French riders haven't really existed since Bernard Hinault...

You may have been hoodwinked by Kirby in the Giro as every BMC rider was called Moinard (Amael), mostly when it was Damiano Caruso. But if you believed Kirby's commentary then Moinard actually won.

I'm still debating if in fact there has been some global nefarious plot to remove all records of him?

Pleased with My Man's showing in San Luis this evening. An easy win over a couple of very good sprinters.

1 - John Degenkolb - Has terrible facial hair like myself and last years Roubaix performance secures him a permanent residence.

2 - Zdenek Stybar - Cyclocross antics and curb hops.

3 - Taylor Phinney - I dunno just like seeing him win.

    4 - Adam Blythe - Shoes.

5 - Tony Martin - Behemoth when he is allowed, see Vuelta breakaway.

6 - Adam Hansen - Self explanatory also shoes

    7 - Valverde - I love a bad guy

8 - Pete Kennaugh - Something so good about his style

9 - Kiry - Watching his mountain antics are great so much hurt.
It's not so much about winning, I just hate losing.

I'm rolling out the same team as last year:

    A Yates
    S Yates
    C Froome
    I Stannard
    G Thomas
    M Cavendish
    Sergio Henao
    R Majka
    A Kristoff

Strong British core, good mix across classics, one day races, week-long stage races and Grand Tours. Hoping my loyalty will be rewarded.

    Thomas - hard as nails
    Quintana - explosive and wonderful
Stannard - absolute monster (reserve the right to drop him after OHN)
    Bardet - brilliance
    CAV - just because
    Chaves - toothy smile
    Stybar - toothless smile
    Sagan - obviously
Battenburg - cos he gives hope to fatties everywhere

I've also taken the liberty of creating a 'not my men' list of my least favourite pantomime villains who I hope fate visits major mechanical malfunction upon

Aru - ungainly, basking shark faced toss pot doper
Valverde - not taken in by his apparent change in nature in recent times - he's the same to55er he's always been
Bouhanni - all the tantrums of Cav, none of the talent
Impey - drugs cheat ('contaminated pill machine' my ar5e)
Farrar - just hate him. No reason
Fat chopper. Some racing. Some testing. Some crashing.

I think "my man" has now gone beyond closing, any future declarations of my man not submitted by 24:00 GMT tonight, should be prefaced with the caveat " in hindsight" or "in retrospect".
    :)
  • Ho Ho, bit late this party...
Geraint obviously because he's awesome. I want him to do so well he has to be knighted because "Sir Geraint" elevates him to LEGEND status.
Then...Kevin Reza. Underperformer, but also great.
Then...the Van Poppel brothers, 'cos they are also brilliant.
Stages to be nicked by old duffers like Rui Costa, LL Sanchez etc which will make everyone laugh.

I will really miss FF pictures, 'specially those of Samu Sanchez's golden shoes. I miss them.

    2016 My Men

Steve Cummings- retained from last year. Increased his standing after the Tour stage win.

Rigoberto Uran- would love to see him get a GT victory but probably not at the top top level in anything but his devotion to the mullet.

Geraint Thomas- top bloke and great versatility. Races most of the year so you get a lot of bang for your buck with G as one of the squad.

Simon Gerrans- everyone knows the only way he can win...and he still wins.

Peter Sagan- used to not like him very much but he has grown on me.

Rui Costa- decent rider. Didn't think he got the credit he deserved as world champ.

Ian Stannard- just a beast of a rider.

John Degenkolb- despite the facial hair. Flat sprints are dull, prefer the slightly tougher drags which suit him.

    Vasil Kiriyenka- for the hurt

Good start for Team My Man. Gerrans takes the overall.

    bit late but here goes

    P Sagan - I got chills, they're multiplying
R Bardet - 125/1 each way for the Tour, allez!
G van Avermaet - this time surely?
F Cancellara - one last hurrah for a legend
S Bennett - good enough for King Kelly
    T Benoot - great name
P Rolland - if Vaughters is right he's going to win all 3 Grand Tours
    J Dombrowski - see Benoot
V Nibali - Olympic Gold perchance?

You hitching a ride on that bandwagon eh
  • Not too bad for the first month for my men 2016: 2th and 4th for Bennett at Mallorca Challenge; 8th for Gallopin at LaMarseilleise and what can i say about Michael Woods at TDU for his first WTC race. Maybe a win for Kiri for stage 1 at Vuelta a Valencia, we all know that he has a big engine.
  • Benoot 3rd in majorca for team Goat too. Give that man a rijstaart

Too late, Nah. Just little interest and I had no intention of changing "My Men"
    So...
    Postby deejay » 24 Jan 2015 14:17

    Ian Stannard -
    Marcel Kittel
    Niki Terpstra
    Tom Boonen
    Peter Sagan
    Nairo Alexander Quintana
    Vincenzo Nibali
    Joaquin Rodriguez
    Alejandro Valverde
I shall be more than pleased if Ian could repeat his performance next month. (Well he did)

  • I may be turning into deejay, with my late picks and reluctance to deviate from last year's list

Cav - All time top man
Swifty - From where I'm (originally) from
Tomekke - Have always, and will always, love him
Valv - 'Cos he's everyone's favourite b*st*rd (after Diego Costa)
Eddy Bos - Just an all round good guy
Spartacus - One last tango from Northern Europe to the Middle East and into the sunset
Styby - The future of the classics
Nibbles - The only one I considered changing, but he is aiming at doing a very special thing this season (win the Giro, help Aru at the Tour then win the Olympics)
G - The intro to the Cycling Podcast cements his position, if nothing else
