yesterdays cabinet meeting.. WTF, was one of the most embarrassing scenes i'd ever seen, looked like they all had to tell Trump one by one what an honour and privilege it was to serve him... his Narcissism has reached heights previously unattainable in the human race.

Well, the more fake sycophancy now only means when things do go tits up the knives will come out the and back-stabbing will be conducted with extra enthusiasm...

The higher the pedestal they put him on (either contrived platitudes or otherwise), the bigger the crash. Hopefully, we shall witness such an event and with great detail but simultaneously, I hope that in anticipation of such an event, he doesn't do something very silly to prop up his ailing reputation and the event occurs on home soil.

The less oft used adjective 'obsequious' comes to mind.

At a White House lunch with a dozen senators yesterday, he described the healthcare bill passed by the House as "mean". And hoped that the Senate would come out with a bill that's "generous, kind, with heart".

He forgets what he's done literally days ago.

Interesting to see if it's a Dem that's been shot, and if by a Trump loon. If so he has a lot to answer for.

Obviously hope whoever has been shot is ok.

*Edit, scrap that. Looks like a Rep.

Yeah it's not just a rep but quite an important one. One of the most important, I guess.

Again, might be too soon for this, but be interesting to see if the tide might start to turn on guns now members of congress are the victims.

Isn't the stock response that more guns = less chance of people shooting you because, deterrent.

Reminds me that, on this, and related matters, Yes Prime Minister on Trident really was prescient:

Reports say that the shooter asked if it was Reps or Dems on the field, then deliberately targeted the Republicans. Rep. Scalises's injury not life threatening.

Rand Paul saying that because it was someone with a security detail, the shooter was neutralized quickly, preventing a likely massacre.

That did go through my mind as I was typing it actually.

Never had any experience of guns, up until last week on a stag do in Krakow: shooting range, sub machine gun, 25 rounds in less than 3 seconds. How any country in their right mind could allow something like that sold over the counter is batsh*t crazy.

What they need is a travel ban... on everyone who owns an automatic weapon. After all, you've got to keep US citizens safe.

So odd how when it's the US everyone starts ising military jargon.

    "Neutralised" (active) "shooter".

You mean killed and the gunman?

Let's vow to keep the violence in the language.

Agree about the "shooter" bit, but the gunman is in hospital, it seems, so "neutralised" is probably passable language.

    Or shot?

Just use the word for what actually happened rather than a euphemism.

Don't blame me, I said it was Rand Paul who said it. I even used a z in neutralised, even though it wasn't copy paste.

Wouldn't gunman be a sexist assumption before I knew any details?

I just mean it more broadly. I ended up in a suspected "active shooter scenario" in New York.

They thought a man had entered the shop with a big gun, so I got bundled into a "safe room" aka a storage cupboard.

Just struck me as odd how they coaxed it all in euphemistic language.

Was a false alarm of course.

"Shot" might mean that he got away though. I generally hate euphemism, but I'm not going to complain about 'neutralised', as I know exactly what it means. If he had been shot dead, though, that's what I'd expect to be reported. Factual, and concise. That's how language should be used.

Incidentally, before I got so fascinated by the Trump farce, I assumed that "Rep." meant 'Republican', but I've since twigged that it merely means "Representative" (i.e. in the House of Congress) when used in US news reports.

The 'shooter' is dead now, BTW (though he wasn't 'shot dead').

I notice the "shooter" was behind described as a Bernie supporter in the Telegraph - a bit blatantly manipulative even for a right wing paper.

The Trumpsters are in full-blown "blame it on the libtards" mode on Twitter... just conveniently forgetting that many of the gun atrocities in the US are committed by white supremacist rightwing nutjobs.
