Ever since he was elected, I keep hearing the Monty Python Spam song in my head, with the word spam replaced by Trump… and now, so do you.

Lovely Trump, Wonderful Trump? I don't think it'll catch on.

It already has, in the confederate states...
  • He's a glorious gift to satire. Spitting Image should be re-commissioned immediately. One of the reasons it was cancelled was the puppets were hugely expensive to make. But these days they'd only need one. They wouldn't even need to write any jokes, just have it repeat verbatim all the things Trump said that week.

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

  • The USA has a long history of comedy Presidents, so it was only a matter of time before they elected a cartoon character. Personally, I was hoping for Homer Simpson, but this is pretty close.

I've never really got into Twitter, but it's an interesting place to follow Trumpton. https://twitter.com/RoguePOTUSStaff is defnintely worth a look. I'm so hoping that the suspension of the EO on the 'Muslim ban' is upheld, as Trump is going to go completely bananas. He been using his official POTUS account today to lambast a company that dropped his daughter's firm. He is seriously unhinged. Not quite sure how the Republican Party can stand by and let it happen.

Some good stuff there, and a sense that things are not going to plan and already they are turning on each other, which is pleasing.

    Whatever makes you think that?

Seriously, it's a sign of the craziness that I still wonder if Bannon has this turmoil as part of either a specific or random wrecking plan. Has he unleashed chaos that he can't control, and if he can't control it, does that bother him?

Who knows what Bannon wants, but Trump wants to win. At everything. And having your signature EO put on hold and your press spokesman a laughing stock doesn't count as winning even in Trump's warped alternative world.

Small crumbs at the moment, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

Re Nordstrom pulling Ivanka trumps products, I think this has to be the straw that breaks the 'repugnant ' party's back, how can you use this position to attack a private company. Just when you think it can't get any more bizarre :lol:

I think that is exactly it. They get Trump to do all the dirty work at the beginning, then once that is done they wash their hands of him and distance themselves. They may even take a step back on some of the more extreme and unpopular moves. Then they claim to be the good guys that reigned in the lunatic and get voted in with a candidate that appears less unhinged next time.
  • He is seriously unhinged. Not quite sure how the Republican Party can stand by and let it happen.
Could be a ploy - give him enough rope to hang himself and then the next, less obvious but calmer, more statesman-like, ultra conservative President will be able to get away with much more?

There is the undoubted feeling Trump's being used, but I suspect for different ends - yes, Trump makes Pence look sane, but I don't think that Bannon is using Trump to get Pence the shoo-in.

Rather than the office of President it seems to operate more like a kingdom from the Tudor period. All the courtiers are vying for the Kings ear. It will only get more interesting to see as the lines of discourse, winners and losers start to widen and the energy for infighting will leave little time for executing policies.

The republicans are using Trump for their own agenda, gun control, abortion, and the Supreme Court appointment which will all be lasting legacies long after Trump has gone. That's on the basis the loon doesn't start a war with China, North Korea or Iran in which case we will all have bigger problems than what bike to ride today.

But in contrast, he's now appointed an Attorney General of his choosing.
I suppose that will be a huge boost to the Virginian Tobacco farmers.

Does anyone know if impeachment affect past appointments? Can they be reviewed if ulterior motives are noted in legal action?

POTUS proposes individuals for specific roles and the Senate vote to their suitability so the causal link isn't there.

Given the republican majority it'll have to be a enourmous event or a drip drip of dropped bollocks which erodes his support before any appetite to impeach crystallises. Given Trump delivered a decisive victory to Republicans and Americans love winners especially those who act as a lightening conductor.

I'm not sure if his retaliatory tweet "SEE YOU IN COURT..." is intentionally humorous. Poor old Spicer is going to have to try and put a gloss on this.

So Trump/the Republican party could appoint a series of Judges and similar across the board with dubious (to some, not to all, I haste, but certainly to me) beliefs that unless they retire/die we/the US populace are stuck with?

I think it's 9 judges in total (8 at the moment) Obama tried to get a judge appointed after Scalia died, but kept getting blocked by the repugs, trump will have an easy time getting his new man in. So in answer to your question, he could only appoint a series/group of judges his liking if they all resigned en masse

but yes he can fill vacancies with (youthful) candidates of his choosing who will be there until they die or retire so in reality he is changing the US of A for 30-40 years
  • , trump will have an easy time getting his new man in.

The Dems can block with a fillibuster unless the republicans change the rules. Which they might. So the Dems might let this one through as he won't change the balance, and fight the next one of it comes.

He's doing all he can to seem independent at the moment.
