Flynn was a three star General.

A 3* general who was also good mates with Russia's political elite. How TF does that work?

Was as in past tense. He was a retired "private citizen" when attending socials with Putin and discussing sanctions with the Russian gov't.

My point is that Kellog's military record is no guarantee of political competence.

No, I agree. Was just highlighting the 'unusual' situation of a US 3* general apparently having so many high-level Russian contacts, before taking office.

its not unusual at all, at the senior level in the military you will more likely spend lots of time with others of similar ranks and above from foreign countries if you happen to have a posting abroad moreso even than your peers, I have no idea if he did mind, if he didnt then that would be very unusual indeed.

Agree that high level contacts within his peer group would not be unusual. But I was thinking more about the pic of him sitting next to Putin at dinner. Reverse the positions - can you imagine a 'regular' Lt Gen from the British Army sitting next to the US president at a social function?
  • Does Trump have any connection to reality? Serious question.

Surely no American should be doing anything other than cringing with embarrassment now? Surely? This is what happens when you give the job of US President to an 8 year old.

The classic Trump piece was claiming that he had the largest electoral college victory since Reagan as proof of something or other. Then when it was pointed out that Obama and George HW Bush had larger, just saying "well, I've seen that information around" - it doesn't matter that it's rubbish when he says it.
  • This may well be the beginning of the end. He's not well, not well at all.

    Uranium, lol.

To be fair, lots of things are done with Uranium, including some bad things.

Holy crap. That's not delusion, it's deliberate characterisation of any question as hostile opposition.

It's the US equivalent of Brexit - a lot of people in GB are standing there going "wtf have we done", a lot are still really happy about it.

It's not just the US that have a large percentage of imbeciles in their population.

Trump has appealed to a demographic in the US that voted for him - his bizarre behaviour now is something they have to live with. Problem is, we may have to live with it too.

    The uranium quote
"You know what uranium is, right? It’s this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things."
Did he really think some of the world's most experienced journalists didn't know what uranium was, it was like he had just been given some secret military briefing and he was explaining uranium to 5 years olds.

There is a difference. You can make Brexit sound like it makes some sort of rational sense - at least superficially. But however you look at it, whatever your beliefs, Trump is clearly someone who at best has no competence for his role whatsoever and at worst is probably a bit backward. He has no knowledge of what he is talking about and is rapidly becoming an international joke. The only way he will make things happen is by destabilising situations (Israel comes to mind) - that might appeal to some gun toting hicks I suppose but Trump didn't get elected by those alone.

How long before other world leaders will be openly pointing and laughing at him?

and if that doesn't happen?... it will make what we're seeing now will seem positively liberal, no one can take it for granted that it will change, the big worry is if he and his clan get an endorsement from the voters

Whereas with Brexit, any suggestion of another vote on whether it is still what people want is greeted with wailing that this would be undemocratic........

Frighteningly similar to his first day in office signing off on his executive orders - asking the assembled press if they knew what it was what they were looking at..... Of course they did, but someone had obviously just explained them to him minutes earlier.

Personal favourite from his presser - "the leaks are real, the news is fake".

Saw a bit from Fox News last night slamming him and his performance - I thought Fox would tickle his balls no matter what? Are they starting to turn on him?
