  • Will be very interesting to see if this holds up in the courts.

I imagine TM is looking on enviously
  • I'm struggling a bit with Zahawi. Never rebelled, never really spoken out on much before. Now, when it matters to him personally, he's there. I'm struggling. I think I'm struggling most because he's reassured by May's statement. Despite it taking 24 hours to come up something that, even now, is mealy mouthed. No, I don't know if I am struggling.

I hope you're not suggesting that our politicians are self-serving Bender
  • I would never do such a thing.

I predict the person I may end up being most disappointed in this week is Corbyn mind.

  • So, it's Prince Charles v Trump and Trump is running scared. He's also worried that thousands will turn out to protest. Thousands. I'd be surprised if it weren't millions. He'll claim hundreds of course.

  • Could it not be argued that TM is following the wishes of the electorate? You would get a comfortable majority in the UK to vote for that policy (and extend the list).

Have we shifted from our leaders doing what they think best to just doing our bidding.

It would certainly be refreshing to have our government do the bidding of those outside of metropolitan areas ie; The City. It is definitely one of the reasons why the EU Referendum went the way of leaving.

You and I will never agree that discriminating by religion is a good idea. Our leaders should take the lead on the grounds that we should know better.

You say that but in proceeding to leave the EU, the government is now doing exactly that.

Though I would suggest the cost of Brexit & cost of tariffs will be felt more keenly in poorer provincial areas, ironically.

The provinces ought to be glad the U.K. cities don't use the same attitude Brexiters used for the EU.

Cities subsidise the pronvinces by a big degree.

London specifically subsidises a lot of the rest of the UK. The difference is, most Londoners are OK with that.

Definitely. I'm all on favour of having a gallows on every road leading in and out of every village, town and city. I'd like to see the resurrection of witchcraft trials. Bring back firing squads. Bring back the poor house. School leaving age of 7 and straight into service of the wealthy or down't pit. Subjugation of women. Cutting off hands for thieves and shop lifting. Stoning for adultery. Age of consent for marriage down to 10 for females. Polygamy. Creationism to be taught at school upto age of 7 (see above). All historical artefacts to be destroyed. All works of art to be destroyed. Make it a capital offence to take the Lords name in vain... "peace be with Allah the almighty".....

When trump visits he will proudly claim the most people ever came out to visit a US president on a foreign trip. The fact they are there opposing him is moot.

I think trump has managed to over reach himself this week. Federal judge has overtuned part of his decree and state governers and autorney generals look set to mount a full legal challenge. States in the U.S have alot of power just another check on the power of the president.

Quite impressive he has managed such a backlash in the first week. At this rate he be in serious hot water by the end of the year. I dont think he will last unless he finds some political acumen.

Equally how can it be right to call all those that voted Brexit, ignorant right wing racists. Seems that was the general consensus of the Remainers on this forum.

Some were. Some were not. Generalising is wrong.

What does Trump think his 90 day ban on muslims will do? Will it stop a terrorist attack? I can't see that.
Will it disrupt thousands of families and businesses? Yes.

And why is Saudi not on the list seeing as that's where the 911 hijackers came from?

    This is completely nonsensical.

I'm a remain voter Mr Goo. I have dont think brexit voters are ignorant and racist. I think brexit is a mistake but I also think it happened for good reasons (lack of representation for many years). So Mr goo I think you have generalised remain voters.

It is generalisation of peoples views that is in part why we are where we are. Will never learn? Think the talk of elites that is generalisation gone mad. Think how the northern voters in brexit area are lumped together as being anti immigration and not for other things. Think how londoners and other remain areas are now refered to a remoaners.

Generalisation of people veiws has to stop or brexit will happen again and again. we have to listen to each other not close our ears and do what we want. That is what trump is doing.

Thing is, if he wanted to keep Americans safe from mass killings then he would try and do something about the gun laws. I suspect US gun toters have killed far more in mass shootings than 911 and all the rest (I could be wrong, I am sure someone has done the maths). However, that would be both too tough and politically unpalatable...hence, the easy target of muslim countries...well, some of them but not hotbeds of radicalism like the UK and Belgium...

There is a lot of hate in the world right now. However I suppose that is nothing new, hate between fellow humans has been around since the time of Cain & Abel.
I hope what we are seeing is the start of a societal reset. Trump is not the answer, however I believe that he may be the catalyst for something better in the future. The same goes for the situation in Europe. The EU is not the answer, a modern day capitalist Soviet Union, which has seen millions suffer (see Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal) due to the financial constructs of the wealthy.
None of the societal structures we have experienced to this date have worked. Democracy, Capitalism, Socialism, Communism, Kingdoms, Religious States, all seem to result in a bad situation for the majority. They are constructs that only benefit a small minority. What we need is a complete re-think on how humanity needs to progress, if it wants to. We certainly need a system where both religion and profit/money are removed, and one where it is totally for the betterment of mankind, without the betterment of the individual. If you look at how the NHS and Social Healthcare are struggling it is all down to money, profit and balancing the books. That is not right when the health and wellbeing of humans is at stake. Same can be said of transportation, energy generation, telecommunication etc, etc, they are all fantastic things but it's all driven by money.

Perhaps someone should start a thread to explore this.

It is scapegoat politics - he did not invent it but is very keen to follow through. First he came for the Mexicans, then he came for some Muslims....easy to see how he can expand his franchise to hispanics and more muslims.

I imagine his approval ratings will soar.
