Mr Texan hasn't been posting for a while. It's 2.30pm in Austin, Tx. I wonder if he clocked offshift in Nizhny Novgorod a few hours ago?

I think he is more likely to be in Milton Keynes.

  • They've messed up the fraud a bit less than last time, but they're really bad at it.
  • So, is he going to concede because his hillbillies with guns have not revolted in big enough numbers?

You figure those hillbillies will burn down the inner cities and loot Target?

If they have to swung by Cosco to stock up for winter anyway, they might put some intimidating red caps on, honk the horn of the pickup and drive around downtown some.

This is interesting. If they were running for governor instead of president this would require a run-off as no one got over 50%
How many states would that apply to (a) in 2020 (b) in 2016 (c) in 2000?

Just as mere examples of when a less popular Republican "won". You can't have it both ways.
Not positive but I would guess just about all states require a majority not a plurality. You will notice several run-offs for senate and house seats.
Weird that you don't know that Texas doesn't for any general elections.

I didn't know that. It changed back in 1986 after I got out of college. It hasn't come up so I didn't notice.
You were 39 when you graduated?
I was in my 30s. I spent 20 years in the army before I went to college. I only have two degrees.
I take it math isn't one of them? A US college degree is 4 years. So you joined the army aged 11.

Or, a masters is minimum 2 years. So you might have been 13.

When did you squeeze in learning to fly?
Like every thing else, I went to college in fits and starts. Same way with the army, I had a break in service. Oddly enough, my two degrees are in math. I did 20 years in the army, spent 10 years working for Mopac as a brakeman and conductor, owned a restaurant, had a bunch of side gigs. I don't keep up with dates much, went to jump school in '82, Ranger school '83, got married in '76, daughter came in '81, rode my mountainbike across Texas in '79, paddled a kayak down the Mississippi in '09 and thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail in '12. In between I walked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon a few time. Hiked it rim to rim and have been to the highest point in about half the states.

Is there some big deal in walking in and out of the Grand Canyon. Did that in 1979 mid June 114 degrees, a gallon of water between 4 of us. Got a bit of thirst on coming back out.

If you did it, obviously not. Odd thing about the bottom of the Grand Canyon, you are likely to see more foreign tourist down there than Americans. Americans aren't big on walking.

Hmmm, see now. I've always wondered if I have a hankering to do that...

I can give you the names of the three mates I did it with. However only two are contactable as Simon died in an avalanche in the Alps 2 years later. Would you also like the list of rock climbs we did in Yosemite, South Lake Tathoe and Colorado as well.
  • No, I have no reason to doubt you. I got to hike some of your country as well, mostly as a guest of 21st Artist Rifles. Did some of the Brekon Beacons including Penny Fang. Those guys are goats.

I get the impression the BBC has very few bodies on the ground or in the office. Web content is very slow to update and lots of articles move about getting re-titled.
I suspect the talent would understandably leave when it was clear the organisation is being run down.
Government intervention is definitely taking its toll. Having previously worked for an organisation that found itself struggling, I can assure you the talent disappears rapidly.

They keep mentioning that they've partnered with CBS, and they are taking their data from a particular source so I agree it sounds like they don't have anyone over there and they're reporting on it remotely.
There's probably not much to report in the morning as the results will start getting added/updated later in the day in the evening/night here when the BBC probably only have a skeleton crew on the job to save money.

The Bright Angel trail is about a 12k hike, 1300m elevation change and very easy footing throughout (apart from donkey poo). Not at all steep. And yes I have. I found it harder trudging around Manhattan in mid summer, to be honest.
  • I've stopped bothering to check the BBC for updates, it's been that poor. Even the Guardian seem to have a pretty good grasp on what's going on. I've been watching a lot of CNN over the past few days and it's been incredibly informative. I've certainly learnt more about the geography of the US and how their voting systems work than I knew previously!

    I'd love to do that.

I am very disappointed that North Carolina is likely to stay Trump as I had a fantastic set of work trips to the Asheville area and it is a brilliant, beautiful part of the world (which also happens to have more craft breweries than anywhere else in the US..).

Mixing the current and former names of 21 SAS is a bit odd though. The Artist bit is still in the official title but as far as I'm aware the 21st Artists and Rifles were never used together. Could be wrong though.

It's more now a question of what he's going to fook before he's dragged out of the White House.

Probably. We were in Wales somewhere within driving distance of Hereford. They took us to some little museum where the guys who fought the Zulus at Rorke Drift and won all the Victoria's Crosses. Forgot or never knew the name of the base. I remember that they had an old airliner fuselage they used to practice hostage rescue on.

I had never heard that part, either, just 21 SAS. They gave us the whole history. We stayed at their place on Kings Road, London initially. The guys from 22 SAS gave us some interesting briefings including a film on their role in the Iranian embassy hostage rescue. I got to go to British jump school at some place called Halaversham?

Why can’t Trump go back to the White House?
    Cos it’s for Biden.

    *Stolen.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.
