Anyone with half an interest in history, or indeed the future, should be concerned by this.

The ironic part - "The USAGM is tasked with broadcasting independent news to a global audience of more than 280 million people. It was created in 1942 to combat Nazi propaganda."

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-53111704
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

There is a worrying question about the power Apple and Google have in all this.

I'm surprised that anyone could be surprised by this.
I'm not surprised. Or are you surprised that anyone would be worried about it?
Yes. Either use other products, succumb, or go off grid.
No need for worry. Will it help?
VoA has always been absolutely terrible and not worthy listening to.

I've never listened to VoA so just going on the report.

It's within your control. Listen to BBC world service. VoA is really really bad. In this context "independent" means free of US political bias, not free of US bias.

In contrast, it is hard to avoid google.

In the related article concerning C19:

President Donald Trump blames it on increased testing, telling the Wall Street Journal he thinks "testing is overrated" because "in many ways, it makes us look bad."

He's trying to fire another attorney general who is investigating him and his associates. Weird how that keeps happening.

This guy's not going though. Bit of excitement before it turns out nothing matters again.

Point being that other options are available. You might not like them, but there is a cost of entry for the main act. Anyway, way off topic.......

It also seems that in not having a "Are you over 18?" tick box on the sign up form, Parscale has illegally harvested data of minors.

Mind you, I suspect Trump will be throwing Parscale under a bus soon, but not for that reason.

I just hope this isn't going to be used as a convenient pawn as the Tiktok site is hosted by the Chinese.

The kids were only getting on a list that allowed them to show up and get in. They didn't deprive any real fans of tickets.... There just weren't very many of those willing to show up in the middle of a pandemic.

The kids did make them think they'd need an additional stage outside though for the overflow, which is funny.

I saw a photo of one supporter who while being a moron for going to a stadium full of people had the sense to sit really far away from anyone, that or he smelt so everyone moved.

What i find interesting is that this really has been a case of employing an absolute moron that is so self interested it is like looking through a shop window and yet the US has carried on pretty much as normal. People went to work, there was the odd race riot and a load of school shootings. Sure there has been a pandemic but only really the response is related to Trump. Maybe it does not matter who you employ at the top these days.

The US basically has a whole set of checks and balances to try and stop the more undesirable effects of electing someone like Trump.

Plus the individual states have a fair degree of autonomy.

Some of the nastier stories coming out of immigration detention centres has a lot to do with Trump, but chimes fairly well with what a lot of the UKIP crowd would want anyway.

I think a lot of the damage for the self-interested won't be noticeable yet.

I think the entire global response to the pandemic would have been very different had the US had a leader who wants to lead the (western) world.

There is a stronger argument to elect a lazy sh1t (yes worse than Boris) or have no Govt at all. If you Google it then both Trinidad and Belgium had no Govt’s for ages and everything was fine.

My hot take is that John Major was an excellent PM because he had a few principles (not too many, it turns out), but had no majority so couldn't really do anything. The current more actively anti-government style leaders just break things without knowing how to put something back together.

Erm, the f*cker tried to ban dance music.

No Prime Minister who tries to do that is "excellent".

How was the Grey Man going to ban dance music then? Don't remember that. Sounds a bit King Cnut-like.

Banned gatherings of 20 people or more where

63(1)(b) "music" includes sounds wholly or predominantly characterised by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats.
