Can't quiet work out this Oprah or TV celebrities in general wanting to run for political office as though they have something really special to offer. Oprah does believe in 'wishful thinking' in that if you wish hard enough it will come true. What could possibly go wrong wishful thinking instead of sound political analysis and decision making in domestic and foreign policy?
Instead of a Rex Tillerson as Secretary she could have Meryl Streep, her political advisors could be the Kardashian family. To think people are wetting themselves over one speech, containing obvious statements, punctuated by pauses for dramatic effect qualifies you for president is to show how brainwashed certain groups of people become from watching TV.

Theoretically it could be a good thing, reality may be very different.
Modern society, especially in the US, seems to value celebrity above all else. A good orator backed by the right people could do very well. The most important bit being backed by the right people. The candidate would just be a figurehead and should only follow the advice of the backroom staff that know what they are talking about. The problems arise when human nature, particularly ego, come into play and the candidate actually starts to believe their publicity.

A speech she will have paid someone to write for her.*

*I know, I know...politician speeches will all be written too.

I wondered how he got away with this but he did. I also thought that it was a debt write off and not tax.

Company he owned takes out a loan. Company goes bankrupt. Loan does not get paid back. Owner declares the loss incurred by the company (of $916m) on his personal tax return. Owner then uses that loss to offset against future taxes over the following 10 years.

The problem with 'if' is that it is a hypothetical. The problem with two in the same hypothetical 'if's' is that it is in the realms of fantasy but...

If Trump were to last the course (after deciding that he is the best President to have ever lived) and Oprah runs for presidency against him, then we would truly see the American social divide.

Sloppy Steve gone from Breitbart. Is Dotard untouchable? Have we all been wrong all this time?

It's another victory for those who have been appointed purely because they are related to the president. He took too long to work out that they were unsackable, not him.

Spot on, his family may be eminently unqualified but at leat they are just profiting from the position, rather than Bannon who aimed to destroy lives from the access and authority he was given.

trump can't handle anyone one who makes it obvious they're more intelligent than he is

the moment he realises, they're on the way out

hence his administration is a mix of loons, the profoundly corrupt, the delusional, and a diminishing number clever enough to not make it obvious - but, the ones with honour eventually quit rather than kowtow

end state is the loons, corrupt, and delusional, trump's right at home with them

Not quite - certainly not diplomatic but increasingly presidential. Putin and Duterte are heads of high population countries and listen to them.
I lived in West Africa for some time - in Gambia - and even the locals would agree that characteristic for their country.
Quite a lot of people do not welcome the risk of an increased population and a diminishing number of countries are willing to accept one. He is reflecting that view.

Surely this is the reason he says everything he says though? It's all about saying what he thinks most voters want to hear rather than necessarily what he believes (although there may be overlap). I'm sure someone must have explained to him that the Bush administration commissioned the new Embassy, that it is more secure and that it was self-funding but it's far better for his personal ambitions to make it into an Obama f**k up.

On another note, did anyone see the Miriam Margoyles documentary the other night? She was talking to 'preppers' in the Tennessee mountains who are obviously a bit paranoid about nuclear war and yet they all voted Trump who is probably the person on earth most likely to cause a nuclear war. Even before they said they voted Trump I guessed that as a bunch of gun toting, paranoid lunatics convinced that the world bank and world order were going to cause destruction that would be the way their politics would lean. They may well be right and it is more likely Armageddon comes from a financial crash than a nuclear war but the fact they think a person who lives off inherited billions and loses money is the right man for that situation sums up the target audience.

I don't think he can think like that.

He just blurts stuff out. Sometimes it hits the mark, other times it doesn't.

Strange that BL Harbert (US) the main contractor have involvement working in Iraq. Seems they pick up business where the US stick their oar in. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a link between them, the Carlyle Group and other associated companies that George W Bush and his cronies has links to.
