  • I think the truth is that all of these things are flawed to some degree. Thin so we can use them, we don't get heat, we sit still and get cold. DWR goes away, wetness on a thin panel, wind, cold. Some are thicker and warmer, eventually they get wet, still cold. I do date the Mossa as the best of those I've tried but it's not the holy grail even still. And much depends on what day. Throwing it down and cold? Go slower, get a Rapha hardshell. Banging along? Mossa. I'm just about to try a Madison Roadrace Premio rain jacket because sometimes that's just a better option in actual rain. I'd have got the Rivelo one but they've put that up to £130. Mind, I might still do so as it looks very good indeed.

I'm veering towards the Mortirolo 4 rather than the Espresso. Thicker fleece lining apparently.
What's the gen on the Castelli Mortirolo 4 Jacket?

Had my Rivelo Garsdale a couple of months now. Flippin' marvellous. I'd wait for the rivelo rain jacket if I were you.No doubt it will be reduced on SP soon enough!

Go for it. Should be lovely. £113 at Wiggle, all sizes. Report back! Use Saver 10 for a tenner off as well. You won't need it now mind, wet, wet, wet.

Beware that Castelli say 6-15 for the Mortirolo and 0-15 for the Espresso

  • Right, I am finishing off my Rapha Pro Team Training jacket review. It's very very good.

    HOWEVER

Can I check my recollection. The Mark 1 was Polartec, ditto the Mark 2 (they changed the sizing). This is the "Mark 3" and, to my mind, not as nice to wear and I reckon it is ditching the Polartec that caused that. Conclusion, great, but bring back the Mark 1. Am I right in thinking those are the changes?

I believe you are right. The mki, at least, was polartec powershield and I really wish I ihad bought two in the sale at the time. Been a big fan of powershield since the time i used to call myself a climber.
  • Cheers Gary. It's noticeable that it's not as soft as it as. Or warm.

Just read the blurb on the jacket and it says it's "based" on the pro team jacket. Does that just mean it's made from inferior materials...
  • Well, my analysis has found the following:

    Old version
    Front panels, Polartec®: 70% Polyester 30% Nylon
    Rear panels, Super-Roubaix: 85% Polyamide, 15% Elastane

    New Version
    Front panels:
    57% polyester
    43% nylon
    Rear panels:
    51% polyamide
    33% polyester
    16% elastane

No mention of the fact that the old arms were all softshell? Am I right on that.

So there's an obvious difference in what's being used. The new one for me is stiffer and less soft.

I took note of your temperature range and an Espresso is in my basket at Merlin cycles. I wondered if you knew what the difference between the Lusso Super Roubaix Bib Tights and say the DHB deep winter as the former is also available £44.95 at Merlin and I could get both in one (lazy) go.

  • No windstopper panels on the Lusso but, to be frank, you won't need deep winter ones anytime soon. Wet from today

The arms always had a wind proof front, roubaix back.

Interesting, as I think the newer version is softer than the original, it also has a better fit (for me).

Still my favourite jacket, you can layer up/down depending on the weather.

[Soz, BTR: we've hijacked your thread again]

Bloody amazing. I last drank in Portgual last year (apart from a couple of soft Bailey's). Less of the 'old' you fecker.
What's the weather like on the East side?

What colour did you go for?

Had the blue one delivered today. The colour looks absolutely nothing like the pictures on the website. Not bad, but much duller and the back is a different colour entirely, more of a purple.

Cold, but dry. Lovely ride this afternoon, dressed in my mki Rapha Pro Team jaiket, and a medium weight baselayer (that's for BTR for hijackinghis thread again)

    Roll on March 18!

Blue, and, as you say, a bit dull. I loved my orange one.

That was mine, and was about the green and yellow jersey, forget it's name now.

Tourmalet. I remember as I rode it at the time and fancied a wee souvenir.
Apologies for the hijack but thought an early resolution would be preferred.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

How do you rate the Rapha versus the Alpha jersey Bender? Presumably they're designed to cover relatively similar temperature ranges.
  • Snap judgement? Original better, new one not as good. But, arguably, slightly different things. Will think.

Was just about to ask the same question. I've noticed though that the alpha jersey has become a bit like hen's teeth, in mysize at least.

    What size do you need?
Evans surprisingly still have S, M and L for £90.

Pretty sure they had all sizes when originally posted a week or so ago.
