You are right to point out my error, envy is a two-person situation whereas jealousy is a three-person situation, I stand corrected and am envious of your command of English but not your lack of brake alignment skills

Brake alignment aschmignment. Any idea what's up with it? Tried completely different pad and holder but still the same.

  • Not envious in the slightest of your quite dull and poorly presented bike. Just very tired of seeing this one man (plus accompanying fluffer gimp) promotional thread constantly at the top of this forum. Why 'whoo -hoo 13 pages' when you're actually responsible for about 11 of them?

Oh yes you are - which is why you keep on coming back to gaze in awe and wonder at THE MIGHTY DIRK, salivating, wanting, yearning ....

And please don't go calling people names: as my mother used to day, if you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all. If you don't like THE MIGHTY DIRK then head onto another thread.

Brake track issue - piccie 1.

Its now beginning to annoy me. Not too much though, as in the grand scheme of things its not like my daughter has had the misfortune to meet a Premiershit footballer, but annoying nonetheless.

All is perfect at the back. Other pad is perfect, just this one. Any ideas?

If only one of the four is at an angle it suggests that the arm is bent. Dirk bently.

If not, Does it have those beveled washer/spacer thingies if so they allow you to set the 'toe-in' to allow for even braking, is it backwards/missing?

If not, brakes are for wusses anyway :D

I was worried about the former but can't see any bend in the arm: any ideas on ways to check?

None of the latter - one washer that sits behind the brake arm only.

Remove the spring, check the fit through the frame, check that the bolt is straight/seated straight, with the spring removed the arm should sit square if it doesn't the arm is bent, if it is now square then the problem is being caused by the tension.

Swap the spring from the back brake to see if the spring is the problem.

    Swap the blocks/bolts around.

When back together, Drop the wheel out and grab both arms and check for play, adjust if needed.

Do not try bending the arm back if it turns out to be the arm is the problem.

Second to last resort is to file the rubber block to sit square.

    Buy another brake.

Last resort, send me the bike :D

Sorry but that's not a bent brake arm. The headstock is misaligned causing the brake arm to look like it may be bent. Unfortunately the length of time it's been like this means the whole lot is now fubar. To avoid any distress send everything to me and I will dispose of it in an appropriate manner. Contrary to what t47 says there is no other course of action.
    Sorry for your loss.

    Bugger.

Oh well, best just blow the piece of junk up and then dump it in next door's garden.

Suppose it wasn't even fun whilst it lasted.....

Probably the best thing to do us just build the fvcking thing up, take some pictures, then sort the brakes out and we can forget about this sorry thread.

Chain and cassette and a good clean and it's done Mr N: this freakin' brake is the last thing I needed.
