It seems that there is a growing number of racing cyclists who think they are being beaten by people on gear so are going out and getting it themselves as they think they ned it to be competitive. UKADA seem to be quite well informed on what is going on and are picking them off. If only UKADA were catching the guys at pro tour level as quickly but I guess this gets their stats up without upsetting any sponsors.
This is odd for me, I never had a single discussion about this in my racing years in the UK. Hangovers, excepted.
Omerta .
Funny totally by coincidence this was being discussed on my club run on Sunday.
Someone who is near enough to know was making a claim that there are whole teams in the local league who regularly charge up with speed and tramadol and went on to list a whole bunch of names. I can't remember them (I have no idea who they are).
I'd be very surprised if there were whole teams charging up before local races, because... why would you? Saying that, I also wouldn't be very surprised, because people are dicks/idiots like that. I remember seeing some viagra thrown under a car at a women's national race a couple of years ago (before you ask, it is actually a PED! Thank god it wasn't the men...) so that at least makes some sense. Maybe it's a bit of this:ozzzyosborn206 wrote:Crampeur wrote:
TBH, most amateurs love inventing doping stories about their rivals. It makes them feel like 'proper' pros.
But I have my own suspicions. The plan one day is to be a lawyer for UKAD so I'll finally know all the dirt!

I knew personally of a guy who is now a pro who used to be partial to coke, speed, prostitutes and nicking cars in his teenage years."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

He also cried like a girl after tearing off a finger nail when he crashed in a pothole. His ma paid me £20 in recognition of my sterling efforts in riding to the hospital with him and waiting until he could get seen to.
I find this funny in light of some his later accidents."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

If they're different to the one I know about that's 4 UK riders popped this year at least (Stevens was last year) with the CTT apparently testing the same riders a few time that's not a great sign as to the health of the UK amateur scene.0 -

Very disappointing. I'm more resentful of it in amateur/semi pro racing than full pro racing.0 -

sad as then we start disbelieving what we see in local races as much as what we see on the pro ranks.
How long will it be before people start questioning me on my 8th place in the final chipper of the 2009 season?
On a serious note if the amateur scene is too difficult/expensive to police is that a case for life bans as a deterrent?0 -

Serious question, is it young up and comers getting busted on the UK scene, or flabby middle managers who want the results without the preceding years of graft?"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Monkey see - monkey do. They see the pros doing it and they want to do the same. Life bans from competitive cycling / coaching / involvement in teams should be a ban option for WADA to use. Allowing the national federations to give bans doesn't seem to work - see Tom Danielson, lifetime repeat user. Would have been better banning for life.0 -

The tests will have been targeted based on intel... They don't have the budget to go round testing everyone. They test people they are already reasonably sure are doping.
So in fact it's not surprising at all that they get such a high +ve ratio from their tests.0 -

4 years for Hastings is harsh when Stevens, White etc got 2. And as for the junior, can't blame him for emulating his heroes but a silly decision to make.0 -

New Code effective this year, provides for 4 years for 1st offence. The other 2 were last year, when 2 years was the standard for 1st office. Hastings doubled up on his banned substances of choice, also. 4 years - easy decision.
According to a tweet from Matt Slater, Hastings blamed 'a used syringe he had off another gym user'
Hastings also fails any IQ tests, and needs to get in the sea0 -
