I'd love Dumoulin to take this. I'm afraid I'm ABA, really - Anyone But Astana
Have to agree with you. Aru and Astana just cannot be trusted. It is likely Aru will go on to win this Vuelta but you never know, Tom D might just hold on. Fingers-crossed!

Last third had uphill sections. Not amazing at all.
As the riders enter Burgos again, the course gets more technical around the city center. With just over 8 km to go, there is a part of 1.2 km of 4 % - again on a wide road. Soon after, it’s time for the only steep climb of the day. A sharp 90° right-hand corner takes the riders onto Carretera del Castillo. The following kilometer kicks up with 6-7 % on a narrow road with a couple of steep sections. It’s very important to have something left in the tank at this point. The descent is steep and technical. Good bike handlers will be able to gain a few seconds here.Contador is the Greatest0 -
Picking up speed, this race. After a crazy poor first week.
I know we don't agree on this, but the first week is what has set up this great ending. I think crazy poor is harsh, I really enjoyed it.0 -

Not just Astana but that donkey Aru, who actually has minus Panache on a bike. He's a fighter but I can't bring myself to like him.0 -
They surely won't race into Madrid?
If there are podium places within bonus time for anyone I would love to see this.0 -

DD.
It's not Aru particularly, I think if he rode for anyone else I'd like him a lot more. I just really don't like Astana! It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -
J-A Flecha really doesn't say anything interesting does he.
"I don't know if it's enough time, we'll have to see. He really is a great rider"
Thanks for adding nothing to the situation J-A.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -
Aru is a complete champion. 25 years old and may well win this GT and already has a 2nd a 3rd and a 5th.Contador is the Greatest0

How come you like Aru even though he looks terrible on the bike and hate Froome because he looks terrible on the bike?0 -
Did I read somewhere that Astana has been kicked out of the Movement for a Credible Cycling?aztecboy0

Yes, I think mostly because of Boom's low cortisone.
That organisation is a joke anyway.0 -

At risk of being contrary, doesn't a complete champion actually have to, you know, win?
I mean, he might become a complete champion, but he's got a way to go yet. It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -

Passion.
And I don't think he rides with an ugly style. He is a pure climber and doesn't grind seated or has stupid accelerations. He goes early very often. Just because he grimaces like a catfish it is not a big deal.Contador is the Greatest0 -

Astana weren't so much kicked out as resigned when they kept Boom in the Tour team. They wanted to sub Boom but weren't allowed by the UCI, so had the choice of going into the tour a man down or being expelled from the MPCC.0 -
Astana are a nasty team.
Cannot warm to Aru, the mud that was thrown by Henderson earlier in the year has something to do with it, I still believe what he said to have an element of truth to it even though he had to retract and apologise for it.0 -
Well just got in and decided to look at the result - thank God I didn't stick that £50 on Rodriguez for GC last night ! I'm surprised Aru did so well and J-Rod did that badly - will read the thread later got to go and manage a kids footy team.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0

There's talk of Lotto helping out. Sky has some history with Astana from the Giro and TdF as well, wonder what they'll do.
It's more a question where J-Rod will attack. Just over a minute, probably his last chance for a GT win. He has to do something.
I wonder how much Giant is now regretting keeping Dumoulin in full domestique duties for Degenkolb in the first week. And how much Degenkolb is now frustrated he can't really pull out with an eye on the worlds...0 -
Baffles me that anyone can get behind anyone riding for the filthy team that
Is Astana.
Equally baffles me that people start slinging around doping accusation at Tom D when neatly ignoring the actual issues at Astana and conveniently ignoring Aru's miraculous recovery from an illness severe enough to see him drop 6kg.
But what do I know. I'm not a real cycling fan.Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.0 -

Furthermore you probably dont know a TRUE CHAMPION* when you see one. Being, you know, not a real cycling fan

Aru might have guts or passion, but he is the least graceful bike rider there ever has been.0

Fair enough. He's certainly made the race exciting anyway.
From the end of first week on it's been really good.0 -

I'll see your Aru and raise you one Fernando Escartin.0 -
If Dumoulin wins, he'll be only the third ever Dutch grand tour winner, ever. Only Jan Janssen and Joop Zoetemelk have (both Vuelta and TdF).0

I'm not convinced he will though.

Even if Dumoulin gets dropped on the final climb of the remaining stages, he still has the descent to make the ground back up. And being close to 1000kg in weight, gravity is his friend.
Id love to see J-Rod launching a long attack on one of the climbs and making it stick though.0
