La Vuelta '15 #17 Burgos ITT **SPOILERS**
8 September is rest day.
La Vuelta site is showing no withdrawals since Stage 14 which is good seeing that the last three days have been nasty mountain stages. Perhaps those teams with specialist climbers looking for GC needed to make them a bit more nasty - then a few more would have been shed from the race and more importantly for them TomD might not still be within 2 mins of the lead.
GC as of rest day
1. RODRIGUEZ OLIVER J. KAT 67h 52' 44''
2. ARU F. AST 00' 01''
3. MAJKA R. TCS 01' 35''
4. DUMOULIN T. TGA 01' 51''
5. NIEVE ITURRALDE M. SKY 02' 32''
6. CHAVES RUBIO J. OGE 02' 38''
(Jrod needs to go to 6th and Chaves 4th for the names to make a perfect descent shape)
Stage 17 Burgos/Burgos Individual Time Trial
The inset shows the tight wiggles in Burgos nearing the end - looks pretty technical. Tired and stressed - how good are Aru and Purito gonna be at maintaining good speed through a technical course?
It is not flat - but it is far from hilly enough to worry TomDu who monstered all but the steepest climbs so far

Clutching at straws - a wiggly course will slightly reduce Dumoulin's advantage, won't it? Although there still look to be plenty of long drags.0

Surely they're all knackered after yesterday's efforts so today will be a quiet one?'Performance analysis and Froome not being clean was a media driven story. I haven’t heard one guy in the peloton say a negative thing about Froome, and I haven’t heard a single person in the peloton suggest Froome isn’t clean.' TSP0

Why the anti Dumulin sentiment? He's worked his ass off the hang on and doesn't have the 'shady' element a few guys on that list do.0

Seems to be the insinuation of those that don't like him. Bigger than your average climber therefore must be on something.
Can't see any other reason. He seems like a nice guy, quite articulate, looks good on a bike, rides with his head and heart. I'd be more than happy to see him win, certainly more than anyone from Astana or Tinkoff.0 -

None here

I don't think the course is long enough for him to get almost 2 mins.
I want him to do it though and have a few seconds lead making the closure of the race exciting.0 -

Its because he weighs 140kg and isn't a True Champion
Here's a picture of him on his rest day training ride
It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0 -
Hopefully some exciting stages after the TT. the time gaps should still be close and the terrain could make it quite exciting. i didn't realise that there was 4 1st cat climbs on Saturday.0

He should ride for Lotto Jumbo en effet0 -
I'm neutral.
I've got nothing against Dumoulin and applaud his tenacity in the mountains. Such is our sport that no-one can excel without accusations, but anyone who rides for Katusha or Astana receives similar levels of finger pointing. In the absence of evidence I just want to enjoy the race. Having said all that I do have a soft spot for JRod, mainly because of his finishing style and that he has been so close so often.
All I hope for is the excitement of a very close competition in the last few days. If it's a matter of seconds then there is still the possibility of GC contenders trying for bonus seconds, even if they are unlikely (I haven't looked at any of the last stages). If, as appears likely, Dumoulin ends up a minute ahead then it's over.0 -

Are we at last getting some enthusiasm for this Vuelta? Almost matched the stage 14 posts already, a day ahead of the TT0

For the race it would be best if Dumoulin takes the overall, with a small margin (which is fairly likely anyway). The remaining stages seem to offer opportunities for attacks, but only gutsy long range ones (no summit finishes anymore) - and possible to control with a strong team. Giant is not the strongest in the hills, so will have more difficulty controlling things, making for livelier stages. If it would be Aru in the lead, Astana has the riders to close the race down0

Dumoulin odds on to take red today, but the lack of support from his teams in the mountains so far suggest he needs a minute to make it through to the finish.
Sitting on vouchers for Aru and Rodriguez so I might go all in and start laying Dumoulin if he goes 4/6 for overall after today.0 -

I'm assuming the first post was sarcastic. I'm not, ahem, that way inclined but would suggest he's quite a handsome fellow.

I can confirm from the female POV that he is fairly easy on the eye
Especially considering he's a lard-arse 'n all0 -
My wife is more of a Chaves fan, but I think she wants to mother him (hope it's that!).

Just realised of the 167 riders still competing, G and Steve Cummins are the only Brits....'Performance analysis and Froome not being clean was a media driven story. There was an instance earlier in the race where one of the podium girls looked Chaves up and down, I presume in an 'I'll take you to the park for a go on the swings' kind of way.0 -

Unlike Aru.
