    Sully-Miracle on the Hudson.
Recorded it some time ago but haven't found the time to watch so caught up with it on the Beeb.
Can't really go wrong with Tom Hanks but well worth it.

Caught this on Monday too. Really enjoyed it, Great to have a film done and dusted in 90 minutes too

A mixed bag this week, one new one, caught up with 2 old ones.

The Mitchells vs the Machines. Pretty much what you'd expect but done much better and funnier than expected. Recommended if it appeals, ignore if it doesn't.

American Hustle. Slow compared to today's fast-paced action-packed effect-driven films as it is speech driven. An excellent cast with an interesting storyline during which Bale shows how to do a Trumpian comb over and Amy Adams shows off her cleavage. A Lot. The ending ties up everything very nicely.

Eagle Eye. Dog excrement. Fast paced and action packed but still complete dog excrement. A good cast and the storyline sounds interesting so I wondered why I had missed it. Someone must have warned me. Take heed.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Halfway through the Mitchell’s vs the machines, bloody long. So far the reviews are positive, child 2 says “this is the best thing I’ve ever seen!” He’s no Barry Norman but the film does have appeal. The bit where the son is ringing random people in the phone book to talk about his obsession with dinosaurs tickled me.

Eagle eye!? Shia LaBeouf should have been warning enough for a man of your experience.

Possibly, but I have enjoyed some films he has been in. They are of the more recent variety though.

Peanut butter falcon was ok, he over acts a little for my taste, trying too hard to be a serious actor.

    Without Remorse

The new Amazon originals take on the Tom Clancy book. Apart from the Title and a couple of characters, the film has absolutely no relation to the book. None.

Clearly done just for marketing purposes using the Clancy brand.

The book is the back story behind John Clarke/Kelly, one of the main characters running through the Jack Ryan series and the filmmakers just started from scratch. Maybe it's a setup for a TV series? The original is a really good story so really disappointed with this "effort".

Agreed and very disappointing. I think the best part of the movie is michael b jordan, but this has nothing to do with john clark or without remorse. They could have done a movie with michael b jordan and it would have been a fine action flick, but his motivations are basic and not that well conveyed. And the big reveal is underwhelming and they removed ALL the best bits of WR, vietnam, drug smuggling, drug dealers, gf was a prostitute, JC gets methodological on revenge... This version is low effort

I just re-watched LA Confidential and The Third Man.
Both are still great. Kind of a Modernist Noir, Euro Noir fusion evening or two.

Saw LA confidential for the first time a few weeks back. Excellent Noir and captures the period very well. Been on a bit of a Crowe binge recently, Master and Commander only gets better with each rewatch!
Watched this again last week and was expecting the film to have aged poorly. Still a brilliant film. One of the greats.

    LA or MandC?

LA. Wasn’t that enamoured with MandC. Maybe I need to watch it again.

St Frances. Nice enough film about a 34 year old American woman drifting in life. I wanted to like it more but it was a bit of a weak plot and didn't really hold my interest . In fact I just asked my wife how it ended and she couldn't tell me - we only watched it last night so best described as forgettable.

Green Street - decent British football hooligan film. Bit of an odd plot in that a Harvard student joins the West Ham firm but it just about works.

Backers like to shoe horn Hollywood actors in UK films to it sells across the pond.

The Truman Show, I've liked this film for years so sat the family down to watch. They weren't impressed at all! Just didn't get it.

Yeah same, I got my daughter to watch it recently and she didn't think it was that good.

Probably as there is so much reality TV these days it loses its impact.

Don't know if it's been mentioned yet but Death of Stalin.
Jason Isaacs as Zhukov absolutely brilliant.

I haven't finished it yet but started watching The Highwaymen on Netflix the other night based on a true story about a couple of retired Texas Rangers brought in to track down Bonnie and Clyde. Starring Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson, it's been pretty good so far. I have to admit, though I was aware of Bonnie and Clyde I hadn't realised quite how murderous they were or that they seemed to be very popular with the general public (women styling themselves on her etc.) which seems bizarre in this day and age.

Tenet. An excellent film by my favorite director. I liked both the acting and the script very much. There is something to think about even after a long time after the film ended. Now I have very little time to watch films, I need to write some scientific articles using Citing an Encyclopedia in MLA. The service https://edubirdie.com/citation/mla/cite-an-entry-encyclopedia/ helps me a lot, which designs and edits my text much faster and better than I do.

Use the search function. It came up a few times on streaming release.
Summary is that it is confusing on first viewing like most Christopher Nolan films. It makes more sense on multiple viewings but you have to want to invest time into that, or not bother. Switch brain off and watch it as a nonsense action film is the other option.

Daylight savings confuses me so the complexity of reverse time was a challenge! Wasn’t impressed with the lead’s performance or that after a brief explanation he new exactly what was going on, no way!

    Jojo Rabbit
Possibly the most unusual movie about the last days of the Second World War I've seen, featuring a young German boy whose imaginary friend is Der Fuhrer. It's a great film, well worth watching.

Its too boring to be a nonsense action film, the last set piece just looks like they rented out a closed quarry and threw a lot of money on the wrong things.

And like seanoconn said, lead actor wasnt convincing though i think Robert Pattinson was the standout here.

Manchester By The Sea - recorded this off the TV thinking it'd be a British film set somewhere like Blackpool but it turns out it's a small town in America.

It's about a guy whose brother died and is asked to look after his nephew. It reminded me of Saint Frances I watched the other day - a somewhat slow moving depressing storyline that you feel you should like but really it just didn't hold my interest.

I'm sure some will love this film - it just isn't my thing.

Colombiana on Netflix. An above average revenge flick. A bit incredulous but aren't they all? Most notable for Peter Sagan as a baddie. Not really but, damn!

    Rambo: Last Blood

You get what you expect but it feels ridiculous with a septuagenarian taking on a drug cartel single handed. The end is a bit like an adult version of Home Alone.

It's OK as long as you go into it knowing what you're going to get.
