The glass castle - netflix - great movie, very thought provoking

This is my england [Edit - England is Mine is correct title] - story of Morrisey - not a massive smiths fan - But you don't need to be - I didn't even know it was about him until afterwards, - Well worth a watch.

Three Identical Strangers - documentary about triplets separated at birth, adopted by different families and then reunited by accident. Quite an astonishing story then unfolds. If you enjoy real life stories (who doesn't?) then this is well worth 90 minutes of your time.

Hereditary - I don't watch horror films very often but gave this a spin as it is on Amazon Prime. It's a decent enough film with a few creepy moments but, like most horror films, ended up in the realm of the absurd.

Gaslight (1940 version) - I enjoy watching old classics like this as its a reminder that you don't need overly complicated plots, effects, sets, etc, to make a gripping psychological drama. The acting style is obviously showing its age but a great film.

Haven’t watched this for years and years, but time doesn’t diminish what a brilliant film this is and what a screen presence Gene Hackman is.

I’m coming to the conclusion that this is the best film ever made

Watched this for the first time last week, incredible film.......don't know about best film ever made (got to be Shawshank Redemption) but high up there!

    Spring Breakers.

If you think of spring break as an 18-30 holiday, you've got the backdrop of this film. If you're that way inclined there is plenty of skin on show throughout the entire film. The plot beyond the skin is fairly limited but nonetheless quite sinister and definitely unlike any other film I can recall watching.

I can't strongly recommend it but it is definitely different.

    Zero Dark Thirty. Strangely satisfying.

Gaslight (1944 version) - not as good as the 1940 English original watched last week (maybe because we watched that one first...) but still an enjoyable couple of hours. It added in some extra scenes that seemed unnecessary - in particular a bizarre character played by Dame May Whitty. I can only guess that they wanted to have her name on the credits. Also features a 19 year old Angela Lansbury in her first film role playing a saucy maid

Well, it kept the kids quite for 80 odd minutes, and I managed to stay awake without a flagon of coffee.

Was sure it appeared as 'this is my england on netflix' - but a quick google proves you correct the film is titled 'England is Mine'

Shazam at the cinema with the 9yo and 12yo.

Braindead action comedy. Ticked the boxes for the kiddies but even they seem to have forgotten about it already. Bit sweary for an otherwise harmless family movie - it's a 12a - lots of younger children in the cinema.

    Little

The little lady wanted to see this, it's yet another variation on the film 'Big'

    Completely and utterly f*ck awful!
  • The Highwaymen (Kevin Costner and Woody Harrellson). OK, bit slow worth a watch.

    Avengers Endgame

Went last night with my son as one of his friends couldn't make it and there was a spare ticket

I'm not sure what to say as I've only watched a couple of the Marvel universe films so I didn't have much of a clue what was really going on however it was very spectacular

The one thing I will say is that it's long, very very very long, a touch over three hours and, bloody hell, my arse was numb afterwards!

    Avengers 'Endgame'
Time flies when your having fun.
The curtain comes down on this long running MCU series in spectacular fashion.
Thoroughly enjoyable and no boring bits at all throughout the near 3 hours.
Definitely has to be seen on the big screen.

Knock down the House on Netflix. A compelling story of four women’s journey challenging the status quo in the 2018 race for Congress.

An extremely personal and moving film.

So Fast and Furious 2 or Johnny English Reborn didn't take you're fancy then. I'm very disappointed in you.

    Mean Girls

My two elder daughters decided that it was high time that the little lady saw this film.

I hadn’t paid any attention to this film before but I ended up watching it for the first time, it’s far sharper and more satirical than I expected and I enjoyed far more than I expected I would!

As an additional, in keeping with the totally explicable thread, but I’ve only been aware of Lindsey Lohan during her f*cked up years but she was pretty cute before it all went out of control wasn’t she?

    American Gangster.
    Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe.
Drugs. Mafia. Police. New York. Corruption. Based on true story.
Quite goodish if you can't find anything else.

Cold Pursuit, a bit meh to be honest. Tries to be like a Coen brothers film I reckon but nowhere near as good.

Black Klansmann. Can't recommend enough. Really well balances entertainment and thought provoking topics which makes it all the more powerful.
The closing scenes of modern day US new footage are truly harrowing given the context of what you have just watched.

I thought it was just a goofy comedy when it was out last year and really regret not seeing it on the big screen.

Vince Vaughn has made precisely one good film, and that was so money.

Green Book, last one I watched. Not what you'd expect, but worth a couple of hours of your time.

    Starsky and Hutch
    Dodgeball
    Anchorman
    Into the Wild

    All excellent films.
