Some films really don't stand the test of time.
Forgot how bad the acting and script was. And my daughter and son who have never seen it before that it has some very homo erotic scenes in it.
Only redeeming scenes are obviously the fast jets. Otherwise don't watch it if you've not seen it since its release.
Nothing wrong with a huge slab of cheese.
As long as you expect cheese, and want cheese.

More cheese in Top Gun than on a Dominos extra large 3 cheese pizza with extra cheese, cheese stuffed crust and parmesan shavings.

With a cheese plate for desert.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

    13 Going On 30

My two girls who would've been 11 and 8 at the time loved this film at the time and ever since

This was shown on TV this afternoon and you know what, and it's one of those films that is a lot better than you remember, top class acting and script, and I really enjoyed it!

    Better than Top Gun then?

Liked the wistful, nolstagic melancholia that Danny Boyle captured, and also liked how Spud was kind of the movies epicentre.
What I didn't like is that the way that the official trailer was cut suggested a completely different film to the one we ended up with.

Navy SEALS with Charlie Sheen and an all star cast.

Utterly wonderful. You lot need to watch it.

I have vivid memories of watching this film about a million times when I was young. I must dust it off again.

Last film watched was Baby Driver. Fantastic soundtrack and great story. Good ending as well and some good performances in there as well.

    10 Cloverfield Lane
John Goodman, who is grossly underrated as an actor steals the show.
Set in an underground bunker, the action and drama takes place in quite a small set.
No spoilers other than to say that the ending goes slightly left field on this. But then I don't know where it could've gone anyway.
Good stuff. Not a family film.

We all thought that Fantastic Beasts was pretty good. A grown up version of H Potter.
    Paddington is great.

Watched the second Inbetweeners film the other night.

As ever the characters are likeable and a few of the more vulgar moments raised a chuckle. It felt though that many of the jokes are wearing pretty thin now. Probably time to stop now.

Seeing it tonight, will report back.

I already know that the natural blonde will enjoy it and she finds it almost impossible to be objective when it comes to Kenneth Branagh!!

He's not in it all that much I believe.

    Baby driver: Loved it.

    5* fun.

Assuming you like you plot lightweight and your action darkly fun (and very cool).

    Trainspotting 2.

Inevitably worse than the first one but not terrible. Adopted a suitably reverential tone in respect of the original film. Seeing Begbie on the rampage again was always going to be entertaining.

    7/10.

Just seen "Dunkirk". Rylance and Branagh are both mesmeric, the whole film utterly overwhelming and yet agonisingly heartbreaking. Zimmer's score is near faultless. The air scenes are a little over-done, but the whole effect is stunning, and had me in tears on more than one occasion. But don't take young kids, it's pretty harrowing in places.

Which one is the pop star?

It's a particularly well put together film, is Dunkirk. I mean, really really well put together.

As mentioned above, the sound is outstanding. Thoroughly modern backing sounds that morph into pounding heartbeats and ticking clocks to really ratchet up the tension; and the big volume differences make it an intense and jarring watch (which is the idea). There's not much dialogue, so it works.

Conceptually, it's an odd film. I mean, there's the usual Nolan messing about with time which I know grate on some people, but it's more that the whole film is about a stonking great defeat that was mitigated by a fairly unusual (and, now) well known tactical masterpiece. And given Nolan assumes knows we know the broad story, so he doesn't dwell on the masterpiece bit at all, so you're left with quite a naked and bare (both aurally and visually) survivalist film without much redemption at the end.

In current climate it's all to easy to read into whether it's a take on Brexit, and given how bare and stylised it is, it's very tempting to do so. FWIW, I didn't really see much that could be considered symbolic until the very end, and i read it more as a take on warfare and how it's remembered than much else.

It's not a pleasurable viewing experience though; it's stressful, tense and jarring. If you want a fun night out this week, go watch baby driver; similarly if you want to feel stirred, sit this one out and wait for the Churchill film with Gary Oldman. That promises to be a red white and blue film....

Jason Bourne, a bit flat really. Bourne treading water. Decent enough watch. But not worth a cinema trip (at the time)

    Also Dunkirk.

    Wow.

Sadly I missed the point of the beginning where it said "The Mole, One week" etc. It's obvious when someone tells you it refers to the time frame, but I didn't realise it at the time.

It didn't spoil the effect of the fim though, but would have made a lot more sense to the bits in the spitfires AND where the planes are seen from the boat. Never mind.

    Great film.

    But of course!

What I DO really like about Bourne is just how euro the whole thing feels.

Couple of annoyances in this one, when they get to Vegas. That security van is going to grind to a halt. Felt like something from a cheesy actioner, not Bourne.

Brought a few dvds back from my last trip to China - £1 each!. The updated Magnificent 7 is ok, not an improvement and will be given to my son. Mrs Sloan is a very good film, the plot is clever and the acting is quality.

I brought a couple of porn dvd too - they were excerable.

Dunkirk. Incredible piece of work. Rylance the standout. Non acting acting. A real person. That applies to many others in the cast, but not to that level.

Tom Hardy's eye acting also worth a shout.

Dunkirk, a bit grim but not so depressing as films such as Schindler's List, slightly slow paced but all the better for it. Plenty good enough to want to see again.

A World's End - So much more poignant post Brexit.

Ted 2 - Well it's pixxing down today and needed something to brighten up the day. It's a great laugh for those that have seen the first installment and are fans of Family Guy. Lot's of swearing and sexual referencing as you'd expect. Lots of referencing to other films which was quite amusing. Best bit for me was the fight scene at Comic-Con NY. Loved that. Think you just have to be in tune with Americanism and the Seth Macfarlane sense of humour to enjoy this.
