Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2.
    Too many superlatives to list.
    Just go and see it.

Even better. And the first one is excellent. It's slicker, funnier, more exciting, great music, more colourful. It explores the characters a bit more too. From the opening scene to the credits it will hold your attention.
And how many movies have you been to at the cinema when the end credits roll and everyone stays put right until the very end?
Everything one could wish for in a pure escapism movie. It's just great comic book story telling at its very best.

Calvary (on iPlayer) - a while since I've seen this film and I'd forgotten just how good it is. Not a all-action-thriller but really really good.

I watched Kajaki on BBC2 last night. A film I had never heard of about an incident I was unaware of. It was no barrel of laughs, but it was compelling, and supposedly pretty close to the real events.

Nightcrawler (iPlayer again) - only really notable because the antihero steals the bike from a guy in Rapha gear in CA...

  • Alien: Covenant

Good film with some extremely fast paced action and slow and creeping.
It used music and some things you'll recognise from the very first Alien film.
It didnt flow as well as prometheus but explained a lot and used the storyline very well.
1/2 more films to come as well.

The Wee Man (on Netflix) - Scottish gangster film, a true life story of Paul Ferris, played by superbly by Martin Compston (Line of Duty). Paul Ferris grew up on a Glasgow council estate and by all accounts was bullied by a family of brothers from an early age until one day he just snapped. The film charts his various incarcerations and activities for the mob run by Arthur Thompson and his son known as Fat Boy. Also stars John Hannah as a rival mob boss. All brilliantly acted, but left me feeling pretty miserable.
Interestingly I've read a bit of the Wiki page on the film and it states that because of the history of Paul Ferris and the other mob bosses, the Strathclyde police refused to assist and the film makers were not welcome in Glasgow. Consequently it was all filmed in London.

King Arthur Legnd of the Sword.

Entertaining but at the same time disappointing. Guy Ritchie did his usual crime caper tricks and everyone was a Londiniumer. Jude Law was a ok as the villain. Beckham's part was not as bad as people said. He was only in it for about 15 seconds and delivered the lines, slightly wooden. Historically inaccutate, there are accounts of a Vortigern but he was not English. He did not invite Vikings. He was a Briton and invited the Saxons. Appears that Guy has shifted the story to a different era.

Get Out. A rather different film from what I was expecting.
Any film that can make a teacup be menacing has something going for it.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Slightly off topic but I'd enjoy watching Line of Duty a lot more if Martin Compston wasn't in it. They need someone taller, better looking with a face you don't feel like slapping.

Not surprising as the whole story was a fantasy of a bullied boy who just did what he had to to survive. Paul Ferris is an evil little gangster who causes misery to others.

Reckless, about a US Lawyer/Congressman who frequented high class call-girls.

    Rather good, I thought.

    Kill List.

With the dude out of Utopia and Michael Smiley - this oozes class.

    I think I got a cut 'n shut though.

The front half of the movie seems to bear no resemblance to the last half. I don't think anyone changed channels in the meantime ? Weird.

    Top Gun
Some films really don't stand the test of time.
Forgot how bad the acting and script was. And my daughter and son who have never seen it before that it has some very homo erotic scenes in it.
Only redeeming scenes are obviously the fast jets. Otherwise don't watch it if you've not seen it since its release.

Matthew - How much had you had to drink? I remember seeing that on a pirate VHS bought when I was stationed in Cyprus about 1990/91. It was total and utter sh1te then and I doubt it has improved with age.

Just about the opposite to my last post. Totally and utterly wonderful - you need to follow it up immediately by watching the others (yes, even the maligned third one) to complete the experience.
