"Tonight has been one of the worst nights of my life. While I was eating dinner with my team the night before Tour of Utah I received a call, For USADA notifying me that a out of competition test I gave July 9th has tested positive for, from what I understand, synthetic testosterone," Danielson wrote.
He later added that, "I have not taken this or any other banned substance. I would never ever take anything like this especially after everything I have gone through the last years. This makes absolutely no sense."
Once an American doper always an American doper! The Inuit is addicted and still can't get any results. Amazing he is employed.

So not Tom Dumoulin then! Good0

Ha yes, that would have been much worse.Contador is the Greatest0

 But this can't be true. He rides for Garmin!!!0

Must've had a back rub from Alberto Salazar, I guess?!0

Hard not to snigger at Garmin's (or more accurately JV's) sanctimonious piety but this is such a stupid thing to use that there is a reasonable possibility that it is a contaminated suppliment...
I'll be honest, if Garmin aren't all over their riders intake of supplements - the make, the source - then questions need to be asked. Thats ABC stuff for a clean team.0 -
I'm already hearing JVs whine about them not having the money to possibly do that...
hopefully they ll have samples of them to backtest though
Nothing to do with budget. As a team, you settle on one supplier who's certification process makes you reasonably comfortable. You then issue a dictate that riders will only use that supplier's supplements.
Where's the cost in that, that requires a $40m budget?
JV employs a nutrionist for the team, they have a team chef, and his chief doctor is well-known AD doctor, Prentice Steffen.0 -
Testosterone? Is this part of this retro cycling fad or have we travelled back to the 80s?0

So not Tom Dumoulin then! Good
My reaction exactlyIt's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0 -

Testosterone is still the drug of choice for top line athletes. It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0 -

Garmin provides an atmosphere and a medical team that encourage and facilitate dope free riding.
They don't run internal blood checks (that I'm aware of) as that would not be economically viable. They can't keep their eye on their riders all the time.
JV now has to get Danielson to fess up and not drag this on.It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0 -
Gave me a good laugh when this popped up in my Twitter this morning, can't wait to hear Vaughters' excuses.
I find it amazing that Danielson still has a contract TBH.0 -
Tommy D ain't popular with many US domestic pros as it is, for a few reasons
This'll be the glisse on the gateau for many of them
EDIT: I see Myerson, Trebon and co already having their say. Danny Pate must be laughing his ar%e off0 -

Vaughters should just disown him TBH. Assuming the b-sample comes back positive too (assuming that's not already been tested?) there's just no excuse worth making.0 -

The schadenfreud here is a bit unedifying. Garmin were out in front of the UCI on no needles, and (before they went a bit corporate and weird) were a team that combined a message that they weren’t going to pressure young guys for results and were publically open about their anti doping measures. They even had kimmage on tour with them in 1998.
JV always used to say that a positive test would kill the team stone dead, immediately. Let’s hope that’s not the case on account of one idiot.
NB Weren’t there big rumours about Danielson even from his junior/collegiate days?"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Yep. Which is one of the reasons why he's so disliked by many on the US scene. They believe he was more than a little selective in what he fessed to Tygart. Same goes for Hesjedal and Leipheimer.
ps...not entirely sure they had Kimbo with them in 1998.... :P0 -

Steve Tilford has been very critical of Danielson, Leipheimer and Hesjedal, strangely Steve's site appears to be down at the moment.0

You really have to be spectacularly dense to use testosterone nowadays.
Looks like plenty of knives out for Danielson.Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.0 -
Garmin always used to perform internal tests, so if they don't now, why not?
Maybe TD got his supplements from the same chemist as Impey, or had a burger made with Spanish meat.
Oh well at least there's something positive for Cannondale-Garmin this year.0 -

My reaction exactly
Danielson has always appeared dodgy, even to my untrained eyes.
Let's hope he is gone and gone for good if the B comes back +0 -
