Betancur....time for the comeback. Mikeal Cherel in that team is going well to
Betancur's chances of shining at this Vuelta range from next-to-zero - fat (no pun intended)
The fella has personal issues going on. Hope he gets them sorted. Shame to see talent fall by the wayside.0 -
Nibz keeps the ongoing beef with Froome nice and spicy heading into the Vuelta....

“We haven’t seen each other since the Tour. There are lots of incidents in races, and what happens in the race stays in the race,” Nibali said, adding: “At the time, I preferred not to mention it, but in 2010 Froome was excluded from the Giro for being towed by a car…”

Haha, my man always easy with his words. Froome holding cars in 2010 to dropping everyone at will once or twice a race in 2015. 2010 Giro was an absolute banger of a race, definitely one of my favourite GTs.

That Liquigas Doimo kit was ace.
Lost a lot of respect for Nibs with the timing of his successful attack in the Tour. It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0 -

Not sure what Froome and Sky gain from this. If he doesn't win (or at least get on the podium) there may be a couple of upset second string GT riders at the team who felt they should have been given their chance and could have done as well if not better. If Froome does win it will further inflame all the doping afficienados who will see his ability to recover so soon as ultimate proof (whilst ignoring anything Quintana, Valverde or Nibs manage). G looked out on his feet for the last few days of the Tour so I'm really surprised to see him there.
It seems to have become accepted that doing the Vuelta sets the Tour contenders up for the next year best. I suspect that Sky are more interested in the TdF2016 than genuinely going for the win
I keep hearing this...but why is that so?
It just stems from something the sports scientists at Sky came up with rather than a commonly accepted way of doing things. You can be sure real racers like Valverde, Contador, JRod, Quintana et al don't go there to train for the Tour. It's complete BS.
Well all those 'real racers' got stuffed yet again at the Tour by Sky and Froome, so I'm failing to see how you can call it BS.0 -

What is Nibbles' problem with Froome? I really can't think of anything that happened that was large enough to cause this much issue? Nothing this tour was worth making this much fuss about...
Is it plain ol' boring jealousy? We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

What's Froome's problem with Nibali? Works both ways... IMHO Froome's whinge about Nib's attack was lame and unnecessary...0

It didn't affect Froome per se, but the other contenders did wait for Froome and therefore lost the chance of a stage and/or valuable time to Nibs.
The fact that he then denied knowing Froome hit trouble just before he attacked didn't win him any brownie points either. It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0 -

Nibz blamed his crash at the end of st 6 on him (erroneously) and threw a bidon at him
But I think the beef goes back further than that. Nibz likes a bit of sledging (not that Froome doesnt like the mind games action himself). There was some of it going down during T-A in 2013.0 -

Sure. But Nibz told porkies afterwards. Which was more of an issue perhaps.0 -

Don't attack the MJ when faced with a mechanical. Its an unwritten rule. Even Armstrong's observed it.

Lets face it. Froome has won two Tours. Nibali has won a Giro, a Tour and a Vuelta. Plus there was absolutely nothing wrong with the pre-planned attack. It also led to a beautiful stage win, proper old school Hail Mary racingContador is the Greatest0

It was a bit underhand. If he had gone five secs earlier and Froome went into difficulty, then fine, continue the attack. But he looked at Froome twice and put the foot down.
Then he lied about it afterwards. I would have more respect if he took Dish Dash's attitude that all's fair in love and racing.
PS: I thought you didn't like pre-planned stuff.
PPS: I'd consider myself obective on this. I've always been a bit of a Nibs fan. It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0 -
Never warmed to Nibali.
He had about 3000 seconds in which he could have attacked up that climb and he chose the exact one when Froome had an issue.
Don't whinge about not being shown the respect you believe you deserve (like Nibali has often done) as a champion, then try that sort of shizzle... and then lie about it to the media and fans.0 -
Not the action of a TRUE CHAMPION

Have you listened to the Cycling Podcast on this?
I'm not convinced he was fibbing. Reckon he knew Froome was in trouble, but unclear whether it was a mechanical or just blowing.
Though would have shown proper cojones to just say, yeah I saw him in trouble and I went for it.0 -
On the other hand, I have warmed to Valverde - his attempts to shake Froome on some of the descents had me chuckling. It looked fantastic from the heli shots - I was crying out for some shots of faces... and some onboard saddle mics to pick up the sound of squealing sphincters.
I know I ask too much...0 -

It's a f***ing boring rule.
Of course Armsrrong wanted that rule. He was usually in yellow by week 2.
Peloton is a jungle, not Eton debating society.
Especially now that teams invest so much in kit. Bikes never used to be all that reliable. Not the same now. Kit is all about advantages - but when you wear yellow you become immune to the downside? Pfft. Man up.
We lack enough attacking as it is. Every time yellow jersey fat fingers his chain shift the entire race is neutralised?

Blergh.
It's not just the MJ who is immune to it though, is it?
Otherwise, we'd see attacks going up the road every time a potential stage or GC contender had a flat, or took a comfy break."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0
