That has to be the most low-key stage finish I've ever seen.

Bless Dan Martin but at some point we have to grow tired of saying "strong ride but he was unlucky or needed to be better positioned"

Edit - Rafa has won btw, a minute over Dan

What? A rider beat the next nearest by nearly a minute, after being first over the top of the biggest climb of the day? Leaving the main contenders behind? Must be rancid.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

Harsh. 2 monuments and 2 GT stage wins is better than most.

Congratulations Majka on a very strong performance and a superb stage win. Very little time lost to the GC group and a ton of time solo. Always a joy to win a stage with the Tourmalet in. Nice that Tinkoff let him go, not hold him back like Sky would have - if all teams were like Sky it would not be worth following stage races at all.

Great effort from Martin who made a huge effort to rejoin. It was a shame he didn't make the initial move as it looked like it took its toll and had he been able to stay with Majka he would have taken the stage. Recovered well

Lots of love for my avatar who dug deep despite his injuries and even made up 1 min on the descent.

Serge making a nice effort too.

Would have liked to see some GC action on the Tourmalet or on the descent from Nibali but at least there was some movement from them at the end (on a very lovely little finish).

Contador looking very comfortable, dancing all over the place. I hope he is similar tomorrow and can give it a stunner.

It is, and on at least 2 of those occasions he won with near-perfect tactics. However on many occasions he's looked like he's got the legs to win (today and stage 8 being two prime examples) but has screwed up his tactics/positioning

Martin missed the initial breakaway and bridged solo (don't know for how long). I suspect that cramped his style, tactics-wise.

The failure today was missing that break. Getting into the day's break is easier said than done, I know.

A nice win from Majka today, rode strongly solo and held the gap well at the end. He'll be tired tomorrow so that doesn't help Contador on what looks like one of the decisive stages. Bennati also being out doesn't help. Didn't see Kreuziger today, so not sure if he's being saved for tomorrow or just not going well.

I'm not saying it's easy, I'm saying Dan Martin often looks the fastest rider on a finish but fails to win because he times his attacks wrongly. Unlike most of the rest of the peloton who just aren't fast enough on those finishes.

93.38kph for Valverde on the descent is the fastest recorded speed - have to say that isnt THAT fast...

Likely that Majka was let go because the team know that Contador is a cooked goose. If he isn't, he's going to have to do an incredible/barely credible ride tomorrow.
  • Valverde took 2 seconds out of Froome, thereby conclusively proving that he's still a doper.

Exactly. There GC ambitions are over so stage wins are the only way to keep the sponsors sweet. :D

Nice that Tinkoff let him go,

Given how Oleg the Terrible appears to operate, he probably demanded the win

I think Contador looked comfortable because the GC guys weren't really racing today. I don't see them all calling a truce again tomorrow however so that will be a better examination of whether yesterday was a blip or not
