€5,000 up for grabs too at the summit of the Tourmalet with the Degrange trophy0
-
I missed the start of the Eurosport coverage, why are they wearing stupid hats?0
-
All back together. Trentin wins the intermediate, Sagan 2nd. Greipel caught behind a split - he needed this
New break attempts with Bardet and Pinot, but unsuccessful
Presumably that means Cavendish also missed out.0 -

Haha Porte said he had sat up then was told to go and catch Quintana and take the bonus seconds. And he does. Just like that. In the big ring.Contador is the Greatest0

Voeckler, Morabito, Buchman, Majka, Pauwels, Demare and Simon leading the peloton by around 3 minutes.
Not a massive gap so far. Depends if Movistar kick off on the Tourmalet and try to get rid of Froome on the descent, but it looks as though the break will stay away. Tinkoff with Majka in the break so they'll presumably leave it to others.0 -

Yes, he's a very good climber, isn't he?Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -

I think I could ride the big ring on a 5% slope that was the only proper hill of a 160km day with an easy week in my legs having let Movistar do all the work. The only difference being, I couldn't catch Nairo Quintana."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

What's the point in being a pro cyclist? You loose and people rip you apart, you win and people rip you apart.

Head Problems in the TCS camp?

Mechanical for Pinot.
He's really got the voodoo on him this yr, like in 2013. Must be an odd year thing.0 -

Last few km pretty flat though - steepest stuff all at the bottom.0 -

Ah thats tough. Been a great team mate so far this race.Contador is the Greatest0 -
Reckon Q-Ball is going to have a pop on the tourmalet to see if Sky worked themselves over yesterday and then also see how the Kenyan's descending skills have improved. Could be good for his time.+++++++++++++++++++++

Where does this thing come from about Froome's descending skills? I cant recall him crashing, over cooking a corner or losing significant time to rivals (who aren't famed for descending). Anyone?0 -

I've seen him over cook a few corners (which rider hasn't?). I can't remember him actually losing time though. I think the impression partly comes from his position on the bike which really doesn't look suited to fast descending.0 -

He also had a bit of a whinge about a descent in 2013. So Contador attacked him on it, overcooked the corner, nearly took Froome out but Froome stayed upright in a brief tour de verge.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -

he doesn't look good on a bike at all anywhere but the lad is very effective.0 -

Edit: also if we're talking about Quintana here, didn't you see him getting thoroughly dropped by Contador on the descent of the Port de Balès in the Route du Sud? I don't see him taking time out of people that way.0 -
The Froome can't descend is a holdover from Wiggins, who actually couldn't descend. In that Vuelta where Movistar (why can't I remember their previous name??) kept attacking Wiggins on the downhill Froome was routinely comfortably following Movistar.
Froome is just never in a situation where he needs to attack downhill. When he needs to follow, he has followed. When he's had his entire team with him he's let the attacker go and pulled him back with ease.
Now Richie Porte is an atrocious descender.0
