Are sky clean or not?

All these 'Chief Sports Reporters/Editors' basking n the reflected glory of British cycing success, and not one of them can muster: 'there's no suggestion Chris Froome has taken performance enhancing drugs'

Just as a side here (I am pretty sure Sky are clean, mainly for the ramifications it would have for British Cycling if it transpired that they were not) if they are doping then someone must have forgot to tell Nico Roche, they need to get him in and on it sharpish, been a very odd pick this year, thought his chances were zero after his recent form but somehow he got in.
Digger keeps commenting on the supposed difference in performance between riders to suggest that there's an inner circle of cheats at Sky. Clearly has no idea how teams work.0 -
Not bothered to contribute to this thread as it is pointless as you all know.

His power is in his chest. It wouldn't surprise me if he was taking legal diet/slimming stuff, he's stated before his best racing weight is 66kg so why carry 68 around if you can lose the extra.0 -

It ignores the purpose of training with power though. There is an optimum balance between power and weight and it depends on what your event is. If Froome weighed 80kg as a 21 year old when racing in West Flanders, he's not training to be a climber, especially not on mountains lasting an hour. He's training to sprint out of corners, fight for position in the wind and short VO2 style climbs. All of these require less reliance on the aerobic system and more on fast twitch, sprinting type muscles which weigh more and produce more power for a shorter period.
So he gets a contract with Barloworld and bimbles around a bit doing whatever races he's told by a team that has no direction and meanwhile he attracts the attention of BC/Sky due to being able to stick to the back of the front bunch in the 2008 Tour, so they do some testing and discover that he's capable of producing enough power aerobically to sustain this, but he's too heavy.
So they change his diet and training over a couple of years (I'm leaving out the tropical disease here) so he sheds that heavy muscle and, yes some fat, and sacrifices that top end power for a greater amount of power for a longer period of time and greater w/kg for that longer period of time. He doesn't need to keep the same power output either, his overall power can drop and his W/KG still improve.
I don't know what Nys' coach is playing at here, presumably he picked up the phone and was happy to talk but if I can explain this using 8 months of SRM ownership, a potted history of Chris Froome's career and a couple of books I read to help me with it, I don't know why he can't."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Has Nys's coach ever worked on the road or only in CX?
No idea, but as cyclocross is a series of short sprints and anaerobic efforts with recovery on the downhills and the only genuine aerobic effort being 200m or so through the start finish each lap, I can see how he could reach the conclusion that less muscle=less performance."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

.
Nys has a real thing about weight. I mentioned it a while back when Sporza had him in discussing how the classics season had gone.
reading inbetween the lines, Nys struggles to stay healthy when his weight is low, and that might have been a reason he never really made it on the road/didn't try all that hard.
He feels that doping allowed riders to stay healthy at an extremely low weight...0 -

It's entirely possible it has. If you improve aerodynamics of position and equipment then, by definition you need less power to attain the same speed. Hence the same power gets more speed. Hence you spend less time to cover the distance of your TT course. Hence you can output more power without blowing up than you could before. Not much more, but some. Marginal you could say.
This goes hand in hand with the W/KG chat above."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

He was 14th in the final TT in the 2008 Tour as a first year pro. A sure indication of talent. That would be an interesting power file.Twitter: @RichN950 -
For the love of all that is holy can a mechanic not get a job because he happened to be a mechanic for someone who was naughty 16 years ago? How many people have to be punished by association? This isn't Greece. Unless the man was guilty of putting motors in Lance's bike then he shouldn't be denied employment or be the subject of idle innuendo and muckraking by a bunch of narcissists.
And that is all I am going to say on the matter.Correlation is not causation.0 -

Of course they can. The vast majority of people do. It just happens to be your favourite team that doesn't think so. So maybe you can send a letter to Brailsford against all the people they have removed from their jobs due to association?Contador is the Greatest0 -
But clearly the man has been employed to fit motors to Sky bikes. Vayer now saying that Froome must have a "bluetooth motor" (whatever that is), all over the French papers and on twitter, so like it's gotta be true.0

It's a shame SkyLimit has been banned now. Would have been interesting to hear whether or not he thought Rafal Majka is a doper after he put a whole minute into Dan Martin yesterday?
And therefore, the whole of Tinkoff Saxo must be at it as well, right?
*safety wink for everyone else*0 -

Yes. Discussed up thread. The sooner Froome puts his data out and quietens this noise the better.0 -

Frenchie this makes no sense. Sky have no problem employing him, it's the holier-than-though-dogmatic-rent-an-outrage-mob that have the problem not me and not apparently Sky.Correlation is not causation.0 -
The one thing Froome's Ventoux power file showed conclusively was that he was not using a motor. A motor acts on the crank axle, but the power is measured via strain in the cranks. If there is a motor then speed would go up with no real change (maybe even a decrease) in recorded powerTwitter: @RichN950

Interesting.
And we're seeing several riders who were on fire last year suddenly riding like drains.
Peraud, Bardet, Pinot, Nibali.....
THEY MUST HAVE DOPED LAST YEAR
Why isn't this the doping agenda right now? Seems more telling than Froome riding well if you're inclined to think like this.Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.0
