Are sky clean or not?

We have to assume they are clean
Stopped reading here.
I'm not sure why we have to assume they are clean. If history is any indicator it should be the other way around. Why are sky special?0 -
I smell troll! Don't even need to do a drug test, the needle snapped off on his stony skin.0

I'm giving this thread 60 seconds to live when Rick claps eyes on it. Which is disappointing because we have loads of fresh data to discuss. The doperati are too busy being bigots it seems....a rare 100% loyal Pro Race poster. A poster boy for the community.0

Ok, even though your obviously trolling, by your logic every team is doping then, so it's a level playing field so what's your problem??0 -

It's dumb to assume anything, we have no idea.
If you think SKY are at it then it is probably fair to think they all are so just stop watching, or at least stop moaning.0 -
The number of accusatory Berto fans tonight is something to behold. Wow!0

Why am I trolling? And why is every team doping? To me it seems logical that teams who win a lot and dominate the sport are more likely to be doping.0 -
Sky have won a grand total of 2 GTs out of the 16 they have contested to date. 1 more than Garmin.0

Point was Sky are hardly 'dominant' - unless you don't actually watch much pro cycling outside of July, which I suspect is the case. And even then 2 wins in 5 isn't domination. Not sure they even managed a top 10 in 2010,11 or 14?0

How about this particular stage? 1 minute down to Quintana, a teammate in second and another one in 6th. I don't remember garmin or anyone else for that matter doing something like this.
I don't see any particular reason why sky should be more credible than other teams who dominated in similar fashion.0 -

I'm genuinely curious how anyone can watch this and believe what they are seeing.0 -

Like La Vie en Claire?
Or Renault?
Or Molteni?
Or the Italians in the 50s?
Or the French in the 20s?

It is fairly common for winners on MTFs to get a minute or so in this kind of stage as well, so I don't really know why it's so extra-ordinary.
It's a bike race - guess what, someone will ride faster than someone else.
If you can't understand that, go watch another sport, and don't bug this forum with it.

It is pretty funny. A guy goes 5.6 w/kg on Ventoux and wins a MTF stage by 1min at 6.1 w/kg and it's the most remarkable thing you've ever seen? Be serious....a rare 100% loyal Pro Race poster. A poster boy for the community.0 -
Can we pleeeeeease get back to discussing the morality of recreational drugs and gay marriage?Warning No formatter is installed for the format0

Froome is the most obvious of them all. When they come out of nowhere like that it's always doping. And what about Thomas? When has he ever shown that he was a world class climber before?0

I remember the 80s when La Vie Claire had three of the top three
I remember the 90s when GC riders would attack anything up to 100km from the finish and make it stick.
I remember the 00s when the team train would reduce the peloton to a dozen before the top of the penultimate mountain.
And now I see the 10s where everything is kept together until the last climb and then ridden as a paced time trial.Twitter: @RichN950 -

Only a world class talent could do that clean, and guess what. Froome is not a world class talent.0 -

I was thinking about this with the Emma O'Reilly quote about "the more things change, the more they stay the same' - winning bike races has always come down to the same old tactics, and probably always will. The only real difference is the means that are applied to produce those results. Some teams come better prepared chemically, or physiologically, or even tactically.
US Postal hired exactly the right riders and then doped them to the gills, but there's nothing to say that given an entirely clean peloton they couldn't have achieved the same result simply by being smarter about who they hired and without the doping. The personel might have been different, for sure, but the approach of simply hiring the best guys for the job might still have been worthwhile.
For all the lazy comparisons, Sky aren't anywhere near that level of dominance. They're simply applying an old tactic better than their rivals, and the comparison is easy to draw because we've seen it all before. The lesson of that is that the tactic works, not that the tactic can only be applied through nefarious means.0 -
Froome is not a world class talent.
Like the fact that Sky were about to let him go before the 2011 vuelta?0 -
