Ones as good as Porte are.Mountain train riders are not hard to come by.
I look forward to him doing his thing in the mountains then. Riding everyone bar Froome off the wheel.

FF, I'm sure you'll agree that people who are capable of beating Contador in a GT are extremely rare, right? But failing to do that doesn't mean you're not a good GT rider, it just means you're not as good as Contador! It's like saying someone is crap at TTing because they lost to Tony Martin.Well people thought he would beat Contador in the Giro.0 -

Yeah but when people say "every time" it really just means "the 2015 Giro", unless the 2014 Tour is counted (when he was clearly having trouble even before having to try and replace Froome, he didn't have a good season in general). He's had that one single real chance at GT leadership, was silly/unlucky enough to cop a 2 minute wheel-change penalty and then crashed out shortly afterwards. It's not like he just couldn't hack it in the mountains or fell apart in the 3rd week. Who knows, maybe he would have gone to pieces, but nobody actually knows because he's never had the chance to ride a whole GT as a team leader. Entirely possible he's always going to be a "nearly" man, but it seems a little premature to completely write him off already.Porte, only ranked third in the world.
