TdF 2015 - Stage 4 - Seraing - Cambria ***Spoilers***

That was reasonably enjoyable. 6.5 / 10.
TJvG - When your form is good, you don't have bad luck, and it looks like it's true for him.
Blimey Iain, what do you want for a solid 8?
Stage 2 was better value I thought.
I mean, today looked pretty but what actually happened. Nothing really. If you'd replaced the stage today with a pan flat sprinters stage the only difference would've probably been Pinot not losing time.
I think stage 2, 3 and 4 have been very successful though, overall.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -

Well yes, but although nothing happened in terms of time differentials for the main protagonists, they all faced some tests that they wouldn't on a sprint stage but passed those tests. I'm a big fan of sprints but IMO that was much more interesting today...0 -

I'm assuming that's win only? 9s around Contador is tempting, though I think it might actually be a fair reflection.
Bosh on the wine gums!
Where's the best place for these odds? I need evidence I'm getting the best deal. Betting all my Greek Euro's.0 -

That 89 tour was just like a 5km prologue with 20 flat stages, right? Lemond nipped 8s from Fignon and nothing else happened.0 -
Everyone loves Tony Martin. No exceptions.
I to am exceptional. That's another matter. :shock:0 -

Quite.
It was entertaining. But it didn't really have any kind of effect on the race. If you took it as a cobbled race in isolation, would you say it was in the top 5 you've seen? No. Maybe not even in the top 5 cobbled races in 2015.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -

I think you've fundamentally misunderstood the Euro"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

I don't think you can judge the stage by the result.
It was fun to see all of the GC guys go deep. At various points we had attacks from Nibali, from Froome, from TJVG, we had Quintana hanging off the back, we had Nibali, Froome, TJVG get away from Contador and Quintana for a while, we had Froome going full gas over the cobbles (with Thomas on his wheel!) to close down Nibali's first attack. It all came back together, but it had lots of fun elements.
An entertaining 0-0, as I think it was Matt Rendell called it.0 -

Is stage 4 of the Tour ever going to be as exciting as a cobbled classic? There is so much to lose and nothing to gain, a completely different ballgame. Aside from perhaps how TM is feeling tonight.
It's exciting in a completely different way. I actually felt nervous today through the whole stage, and that's because of the potential loss.0 -

Pinot’s panic and subsequent meltdown were disappointing. Not an ideal characteristic in a GC rider.
That doesn’t moderate my amazement that these highly funded teams (even FDJ is rich compared to me) can’t reliably get a bicycle through a few cobbles with a flyweight rider perched on it.
He's still young, and he was talking after yesterday's stage about how he wasn't expecting today to go well. He's shown before that he's a nervous, fragile personality so he probably just needs to mature a bit and get used to the expectation and pressure that comes with being a second tier GC contender with genuine ambitions for the overall.Team My Man 2018: David gaudu, Pierre Latour, Romain Bardet, Thibaut pinot, Alexandre Geniez, Florian Senechal, Warren Barguil, Benoit Cosnefroy0 -

Veloropa @veloropa
"I didn’t want to take the bike from Mathieu because he’s 10 cm taller than me," said Pinot (1.80) about Ladagnous (1.81)
At the same time Tony Martin (1.86) took Trentin's (1.79) bike and won the race on it
I was thinking something simiar about Contador. It's all very aggressive to keep riding on a rim with a chuffing great hole in it, but if Martin can stop, pinch a bike and win the stage, surely it might have been better for Contador to do something similar? Eventually I concluded that he must have been worried about Nibali and Froome going full gas to distance him, but the decision making still niggles.0 -

Frankly I don't take anything seriously that Contador says. And yes I have seen the pictures.0 -

Seemed properly balls out across the whole peloton for the last 40 km.

Well that was another cracking stage. Chuffed for Tony Martin and he took yellow in style. I've never been a huge fan of Froome but I'm really impressed with him in this Tour, just hope he doesn't burn himself out. He rode those cobbles like a veteran spring classics rider and really put the pressure on in that final sector. I assume that answers questions about his handling skills? If a few more people had been prepared to ride Bertie and Quintana could have easily lost more time to him today (although Nairo made a good account of himself). Geraint absolutely immense again today but Saxo did well in the numbers stakes. French great white hope buckles under the pressure so not everything was a surprise.0
