TdF Stage 1 - Utrecht-Utrecht *SPOILERS*

A 13 km high-intensity squirt round the streets isn't going to tell us much really. A few seconds here and there ... <shrug>
I'd expect the 28 km TTT on stage 9, with a lumpy profile and uphill finish, to have far greater impact on some GC riders' hopes.Aspire not to have more, but to be more.0 -
Do we really have to start with the 'my man is better than your man' bulls**t after one stage? It would be nice to enjoy discussing the racing for 3 weeks not raking up the past or making pointless comparisons. We've still got the joys of the 3 week nutters coming to the forum and making it a chore wading through the spoiler threads without the regulars doing it.
Amen, brotherIt's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -
I was a bit disappointed in Froome and Contadors performances but I agree I don't think a 13km TT at this stage is conclusive re form. There definitely seemed to be faster times earlier on which several podcasts have alluded to in relation to possible wind factor.
As someone has mentioned above the TTT will be really interesting.0 -

Bang goes my theory of the winner of the Tour coming from the top half dozen riders who are top of the results from a prologue TT.
I know the GC riders have been riding the cobbles and Mountains in training and may have neglected their TT bikes but it's a bizarre result with the top guys suffering.“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving”- Albert Einstein

Over 30 secs down for Dowsett. Bad unless we blame the heat.
Dennis is a much better time trialist than Dowsett.
Eh?0 -
The course was damn twisty and it was hella hot for northern Europe. No wonder people looked uncomfortable.Correlation is not causation.0

Doesn't seem that bizarre - more like the usual mix of people targeting the stage, those who are conserving their energy for other things, and GC contenders who know that they can regain a load of time in the mountains but could lose the Tour here and now if they stuff it up in a corner for the sake of a handful of seconds.0 -
My man, on top of the World since 2007.
There was a small 2 year break for the ignominy of being a convicted doper...
2011 and 2012? Still manage to rack a GT win for both of those years. More than Froome has achieved in his 8 year career. How does he do it, the guy is just amazing.
Drugs and cheating.
It's amazing how much better Froome is, he's raced much less days this year yet has won more races. How does he do it, the guy is amazing.0 -
Calm down Pross, there were just a few posts with facts in about the relative two, it's not a slanging match.

BMC handed Dennis a yellow bike last night on tv. The guy said it had taken them 3 months to put it together.

That's not a great advert for buying a BMC with custom paint, is it?"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Apparently yesterdays stage might have been shorter than reported, supposedly 13.8km but several riders have 13.4 on their computers. So record speed might not have been broken!
Anyone follow any pros on Strava who have put their ride up?0 -

13.5 is the strava segment, 13.6 for Ten Dam, who puts his power data up and looks to have stopped pedalling after about 13.4."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Thanks for that, scary looking at pro data, so consistent on cadence and power. Mine only looks similar if I set smoothing at about 5 minutes on training peaks!0 -

His HR is amazing too. Pretty much consistent between 170 and 175 for the whole thing.
Still, at least I know I only need to find another 0.8 w/kg and I could go pro So all i have to do is improve my power 20% or drop 15kg and I'll be laughing."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Froome on his 2015 TT:@PaulKimmage
In 2012, @chrisfroome finished 11th in the Tour prologue at Liege. A year later he blitzed the favourites by +2 minutes in TT. Today? 39th. 72 resheeps 55 baas

@PaulKimmage In 2012 major focus on TT with long TDF TT’s & Olympic TT. Haven’t spent half as much time on my TT bike this year, no point. 45 resheeps 141 baas...a rare 100% loyal Pro Race poster. A poster boy for the community.0 -

Trust the ragey postman to be a Brit. Oh the shame.

How do people like that hold down a job? Baffling and disgusting.
Postmen here are self-employed, which might explain why he's a postman here.Correlation is not causation.0 -
Not very often. They're contracted to work for TNT, I assume if there are routine complaints about stuff going AWOL then they'll loose their contract.Correlation is not causation.0

While not in any way excusing his behaviour, as someone who has ridden round with 80kg of post in the hot sun, I have a tiny bit of sympathy for him. He's probably paid by the route, not by the hour, so any delays effectively come out of his pocket. His route may have crossed the TT route several times already, and everywhere he goes is choked by spectators. He's hot, tired and knows he's going to be late or miss whatever he had planned for later on. Basically, he's having an absolute mare.
Still an utter twunt of humongous proportions though.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -

Dennis has a nice smile.
And Cancellara really was playing with the spectator fire on most of the corners. Lucky the fans were respectful and full of support.
