A lot of people saying this is a nailed on breakaway stage. Given how the rest of the race has panned out I really wouldn't be surprised to see the GC guys finishing in the top 5.
TV production of this stage is like watching CCTV for pickpockets.
It's surprising that the 'no mechanical help from a rival' rule isn't well known in the peloton. Mick Rogers said just now that he only knew because of a story from 20 years ago. If it was so frowned upon you'd think it would be second nature, especially for GC contenders.
Rigo distanced on a descent. Fortunately Boonen's there.

It is actually from the 1968 World Championships.

Give Ritchie another 2 minutes just to be sure.
It's relevant to this thread, and indeed any Giro thread about this edition. I was just having a joke anyway.
Nice break. Lets hope they make it stick.
Teams don't let Boonen into breaks.
BMC leading the chase now, likely for Gilbert.
Points on the climb: Betancur, Intxausti, Kruijswijk
Hard life being a Boonen fan.
Sky are about 30m back from Astana, Tinkoff, BMC.
Makes the winning sweeter.

He's going to solo from 40km with the peloton only able to watch.
I may be dreaming a little.
He's not great in week 2 and he's never won in week 3 (though he hasn't been in many 3rd weeks).
