According to the twitterazzi, it's breaks rule 2.3.029: a rider can only get assist from his own team.
Seems Roman Sicard got docked a 2 minute penalty for it in the Tour de I'Avenir

I've had a look at the rule and I see stuff about pushing other riders, but not lending a new wheel.

A lot of tweets saying that Bertie should be DQd for taking his helmet off on stage 7 - what was that about?!

    (both would be ridiculous obviously)

So where is the proper mechanic?

Controversial. Wonder how the other favourites feel about a different team assisting?

It's not controversial - the orica rider had nothing to lose and a friend to gain by doing it.

Christ, do people not get cycling sometimes?

The Italians would do the same for one another for a Giro favourite anyway.

Easy, Tiger. Glad your superior knowledge makes you better than me. Next time I'll just come straight to you for comment rather than pose a question to the masses.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

UCI jury (not Giro jury) penalised him 2 mins for taking a wheel from a different team's rider. Didn't know that was a rule!

That is a fascinatingly inconsistent document. Violence towards another rider apparently merits a similar punishment to helping one, while outright cheating/collusion between different teams or pushing other riders is only worth a 10" penalty and small fine (for the 1st offence). And taking off your helmet is instant disqualification... .

I guess it's lucky they generally don't bother to enforce these most of the time...

I dont like that he got a wheel from Orica but that is f*cking bs to give him a 2min penalty.

Well I know you guys like history books but I will be subbing 2mins from Porte's time in the final GC.

Serious joke of a race. I get that rules are rules but how about we let things play out on the road? I'm sure Contador and Aru will be happy with winning in this way. Taints any victory for them.

How many other rules have been broken during this race by others that have gone unpunished?

This entire sport is organised to minimise the chances of the best riders competing to the finish in its greatest events. What a farce.

I wonder if Porte hadnt tweeted it and Watson hadnt photograhped it whether the race jersey would have known.

Hope Sky have the good sense to have him throttle back, perhaps even pull out and save it for the Tour. No point in turning himself inside out going for stage wins when they already have one.
    What's done is done

Indirectly, it's landed Bertie in it too.
Tinkoff now have to combat all three Astana GC riders all on their lonesome.
So, far they have been none too successful.

Probably not Frenchie. It's rubbish. I wanted to see a show down on the road. To quote you for a second: "this is a disaster for cycling fans globally."

    Why?
Greipel is going to do it.
Not much point in emptying the tank on a race that is already lost.

Hope they can appeal overninght and some sensible discretion can be applied. He's suffered plenty. There's a Sky rider in the pic so he didn't gain much from the irregular assistance. And the UCI have just trashed their race.

Dont worry about thr other Astana riders. Landa will get pumped in the TT and Cataldo will get pumped in the real mountains.
