Don't be such a silly. The gap is only around 1 minute yet.

Good stage that. Probably about the worst point you can have a mechanical. 47 second loss for Porte by the look of it.

    What are you talking about?
There are four mountains stages and a 60 km TT.
This is Italy where they have real mountains and you create gaps of minutes.

Wow, congratulations on that win. Lotto have zero excuses for messing this one up - Greipel should be furious. If Boonen thought he had a chance he should have helped. In any case, Greipel can't even finish the bunch sprint off...
That's unfair on Boonen. Etixx were absolutely drilling it on the front. They just left it too late. If Porte had had a mechanical earlier they would have worked earlier. So it's Porte's fault really.

Well that's a lame way for Porte to lose time. Hopefully it'll mean he attacks a bit more now!

Tremendous win for Boem. He was really driving that break. Tragic for Gatto. More rubber woes for Team Climate Denial.

That has to be the worst luck I have seen in a GT... He needs the time trial of his life now. 1 minute is not undoable, but he needs to pull at least 40 seconds back on Contador on Saturday.

Porte might need to be a bit more aggressive in the mountains now although he could recover his losses in the TT. Worrying thing was that he seemed to be struggling to hold his team's wheels at times.

It makes sense though. The guys pulling him were flat land 80kg monsters. A 55kg rider should legitimately be flapping all over the place to hold that wheel.

Could you give me the details of Porte's miracle weight loss diet? He seems to have lost a kilo every few hours based on your posts.

Losing 1kg/stage probably isn't helping either

Yeah but in modern defensive GC races that will mean (or certainly should mean) that the rest is a formality. I should have said race over in terms of GC excitement though to be fair, it also assumes Aru will lose a chunk to Bertie...

It was probably the effects of drafting a car. If you're fourth in line you get less of the benefits and more of the turbulance.

Regardless of any mechanical, he didn't look good.
Hope it's not the start of a two week long bad day.

You're right. Henao is a real flat land monster. I'm tipping him to win Paris-Roubaix one day.

I doubt Sky have a 80kg rider in the Giro.

Not if Porte is the strongest rider it doesn't. Nor does it begin to take into account the fact that Sky have had a *very* easy time of it while the Dark Side have battled among themselves.

Crying over 45s now is very silly. At least until the TT, or even better, the first mountain stage of the last week.

Flecha surprised that the race convoy got stopped when Porte punctured therefore making it harder to limit his losses.

Can't help laughing at Flecha, he suddenly seems to remember the camera is there and has to grin at it!

Were substitutions brought in while I wasn't looking?

Didn't look organised for Porte that. Sky car hesitated and stayed behind when they should just have paced them up to the rest of the cars. Porte really didn't need 4 guys when he could just have been paced himself by the cars. Instead he was fourth of fifth in the train and, like Rich says, benefitting very little from the draft and actually causing him to lose wheels.

Ah, caught before I realised and edited my mistake. Teams should only be allowed one rider with each surname to avoid confusing my simple mind.
