Appeal court in Belfast rejects Unionist claims against Protocol

    Namely

The Protocol doesn't repeal the Acts of Union, it subjugates it

The SoS could set aside the normal consent rules because Parliament said so

The consent principle re NIs place in the UK doesn't cover the Protocol

Steve Baker, ERG, Conservative Party MP, arguing that Brexit, contrary to opinions on here, isn't done

To me it feels like a desperate attempt to stay relevant.
He seems to be spouting quite contrarian stuff all over the place.

I think in the mind of the average voter, it is done.

As discussed on here and to his point, there’s lots to still be agreed but I think it will be very hard to keep Brexit at the forefront of vote winning topics. Minutiae won’t win votes.

I thought it was generally accepted on here that he is an idiot who is always wrong?

They won the vote by linking things to Brexit that had nothing to do with the EU, so why not believe it will work again?

Most people will not want to admit that Brexit was an act of stupidity so will want to believe that the problem is that it has not been done properly

We are agreed on what they’re trying to do.

I don’t think it will succeed. But I stand to be corrected.

Interesting to see what pressure he can put on the PM

Clearly he's a man who believed the PM made him promises which aren't being delivered upon.

Today's issue for those who didn't click through the link (let's face it, everyone) was amendments to replace UK with GB in customs legislation. Seen as symbolic of the UK Gov throwing in the towel over the Protocol

    Update

Amendment pulled. Everyone shocked to discover it was even there and Liz Truss going to get to the bottom of this.

This position of Steve Baker's that the PM made promises to the ERG regarding the 'temporary' nature of the Protocol, which allowed him to become PM, and which in turn allowed the ERG to make "promises to Northern Irish MPs" may not go away quietly

Although, they knew what they were voting for because the remain side told them. Or something like that.

Genuine question- after knowing him for decades why did they trust him?

I mean more the fool Steve Baker for believing a word of these 'promises' from a compulsive and proven liar.

Some irony in wanting a second form of election if the first doesn’t get the right outcome.

Reads like a Putin speech to justify invading Ukraine.

Also reads like the Conservative and Unionist Party is in favour of devolution.

Fairly sure they must be breaking some employment rules. Certainly redundancy.
Sacking without notice and instant replacements?

They are losing a 100million a year so you might not have a choice going forwards. I am sure the union can save them though.

John being supportive of replacing British workers with foreigners? Strange days.
    Sure that’ll save £100m.

I am not supporting it. Maybe if there was a consumer reaction they would not do these things. It did not take coca cola long to realise that losing their European and US customer base to protect russian Jobs was not worth it.

Ferries are critical UK infrastructure and as such I am often dismayed at the lack of care and attention within government.
