They can eat mice and birds let tough British cats did before we joined the EU and they were forced to eat food from tins at the same time we were being forced to eat straight bananas.

Tins? They must have pouches, and it must be in jelly (not gravy) and no fish
Sorry, is this the same person posting about people having too much regard for animals? 🤔
You would love the story about the quote for a £4.5k bill for an operation. Turns out me and the missus have a different idea on the price of life for a cat
I think people should think about the cost of animals before they take them on.
I think it is immoral to spend that much (as a starter) on trying to fix a cat but I suspect we will never agree on that.

Anyway when I refused (and so did the vet when I offered them the chance to chip in) they came up with plan B that only cost £60.

Ten years later he is still with us with liver and thyroid problems and the misssus does not tell me what it is costing.
Glad to hear it. I think we have the luxury of forgetting what most of our own medical treatment costs so it's a shock when you see that. Granted it's a lot to spend on a cat, but I don't get how you make the leap to immoral when people will happily drop the same on some wood flooring or a nice worktop for their kitchen.

Are the animals flown out of Afghanistan bond disposal dogs or similar specialist dogs or a bunch of peoples pets. If it is the latter do the Taliban believe in stoning dogs to death for shagging a leg or something.

The Telegraph hedging its bets on this one... I guess it recognises a skills shortage, but given the scare stories about Turkey during the Brexit campaign, it's not sure they are the solution...

"Of course there are more opportunities for Turks if Europeans leave the UK because of Brexit," said Ali Guden, a British-trained solicitor in Istanbul who has helped many Turkish clients move to the UK. "The Turks want to enter into the market, replacing the Europeans."

The irony is that the Leave campaign had warned that remaining in the EU could allow 76 million Turks to flood into Britain. Despite the surge, there are, however, relatively high rejection rates of Turkish business people lodging applications under the Ankara agreement.

Madeleine Sumption, director of the Migration Observatory at Oxford University, said the scheme required applicants to submit a business plan along with all the relevant documentation.

"The fact the rejection rate is high suggests there was probably a reduction in the quality of applications. People putting in last-minute applications may have failed on the business documentation side of the application," she added.

I am getting a kitchen fitted at the moment.

I just received this email from the kitchen firm.

With many of our suppliers struggling with the new Brexit related rules and because of the challenges we have all had because of the pandemic, alongside the unprecedented surge in demand we are facing following the nationwide lockdown, it has meant that our suppliers have not been able to provide the following:

xxxx Fridge Freezer - Frost Free

As we do not have any confirmed dates when your appliance will be back in stock, we are providing you with an alternative model. The alternative is listed below:

    xxx Fridge Freezer (Frost Free)

    :/:/

( you lot don't need to know what fridge I am getting)

    AEG instead of SMEG?
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

The online suppliers are the worst. Yes we have X in stock.
    Place order.
X now out of stock expected mid 2022 onwards.
Must be great for cash flow.

Thing is, the fridge was actually quite important for the whole thing for various reasons and we would have done things differently if we were going for the fridge we are now receiving.

Ugh. It's not like i can just go without a fridge for an indefinite amount of time.

Any guess how long it would be? You can keep your existing fridge (just not installed) for a while.

Best I can suggest is phoning around suppliers to see if anyone else has the items you want. And maybe working out which alternative you would settle for.

    Ah lovely.

Can't deliver *any fridge that fits* for a month.

So I will be having to find my own. :|:|:|:|:|:|

Really pleased they told me that after they ripped the other one out.

You should name the company. Sounds like pretty poor form. Makes me glad I bought ours separately.

Is a fridge crisis related to Brexit though?

I guess storage capacity strongly affects the ability to buy it all separately in advance.

Unlikely. I think a lot of companies are using Brexcuse as a convenient cover for other issues.

Why are they saying the EU took advantage, rather than just say it was Tory incompetence?

Because their readership are a bunch of Brexit supporting Tory voters who want to feel free of blame for any Brexit downsides?

TBF I am definitely not a Brexiteer and remain resolute it's a sh1te idea but the container crisis from the Far East and the spiralling costs of freight from China are a much bigger issue in the grand scheme of things. It's leading to massive shortages and spiralling costs on products produced there.

40' HQ containers are costing 5 times the price they were in 2019 and can take 10-12 weeks as opposed to 4-6.

Raw material costs are also a consideration and Covid related delays on the manufacturers in China.

Where I feel Stevo lets himself down a little is that he fully understands this but as he's on the windup will never acknowledge any downsides to Brexit.

There is definitely Brexit related stress on the economy in certain industries and it will lead to higher costs for consumers as well.

It's a perfect sh1t storm where Brexit is a contributing factor but not the sole factor.

Fair assessment although in this case with your fridge, I don't think it would make much difference whether we were in the EU or not.
