    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEES

What a win for my man Formolo.

Got more talent then the entire Garmin Team. For sure this guy wont be with this 3rd grade outfit next year.

    Beautiful win and superb stage.

Long live the Giro. Home of real racing and pure fan delight.

lol @ Visconti informing Clarke he hadn't actually won... suppose the pink jersey makes up for it a little

Simon Clarke spinning the narrative about his 'celebration'.

Oh dear the stage win fail replay was bad.

He's claiming in the interview he knew there was another guy up the road though.

Good recovery Simon, but I'm not sure we buy that... ;)

He would have got away with the stage win fail if he hadnt put his hands on his head afterwards.

Nice to see someone letting their son be interviewed as the winner. Giro d'Italia Bring Your Kids to Work Day? God I feel old :D

These southern hemispherical types are wound a bit tight for my preference. Clarke appeared on the verge of a breakdown.

And if at just one previous point in the hundred year history of the Giro someone had celebrated a pink jersey like that

If he'd gone from arms in the air to head in his hands I think he'd still have gotten away with it.

It was arms in the air, a second of dejected shoulders and arms loose at his sides, followed by head in his hands. That's not someone continuing to celebrate!

I don't expect day 4 in July to be like that!
An extraordinary stage, through one of Italy's most treasured areas.
So good, I wouldn't be surprised if it got an upper chipper seal from Iain.
Simon Clarke just the icing on the comedy cake.

As for the contenders, I would expect Bertie and Richie are thanking their lucky stars that Aru was too ill to race, a week or so ago,

Porte "Feels like the Giro has finally started"

Let's hope it keeps going like that (although it will spell an end to my productivity for May).

Im 34 and he makes me feel really old.

Nice to see a breakaway rider (who was 47th in the GC) make it across the finish line before getting steamrolled by the peloton.

What a great stage. Need a bottle of Prosecco after that. Formolo looks younger than my boy (who has just finished his 2nd day of GCSEs).

Damn this working for a living. I tell you, next year I'm taking the Giro 3 weeks off :x
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

In defense of Matthews.. Couldn't his group see Formolo in the last km in that straight finale.. First reaction from commentators here was also that he celebrated the jersey.

Yet everybody watching was wondering wtf?
Perhaps Tinkoff should consider flogging the team cars and buying a camper van.
At least then they could guarantee a functioning tv and radio.

Hands up those of you who were saying this Giro was going to be a bit dull.

Great win by Formolo and great racing all round.

Not sure what we're going to get tomorrow. Everyone will be knackered, so we could either get a truce between the GC favourites or we'll see more full on attacking racing.

Thinking Alberto fans must be slightly worried. Chaos in the team can be contained, but they were taken apart by Astana today. I doubt Mick Rogers going backwards on a cat 3 was part of plan. If Contador rides conservatively tomorrow and avoids making a statement I'd say he's in trouble.

Uran losing 1:04 wasn't too clever either.

I've said this before and I have yet to be proven wrong. Uran is not a GT contender, especially at EQS.
It's not so much about winning, I just hate losing.

Maybe not the top flight although I think with his 7th, 2nd, 2nd in the Giro I think he is better than anyone riding bar Contador. He makes Porte look like a 2nd rate domestique in comparison.

This year he was 3rd in TA, 5th in Catalunya and 5th in Romandie.

Guy also is also very nice and has come from a very tough background.

Have nothing bad to say about the guy. Respect.

All being well he should put a couple of minutes into 58kg Porte in the TT.

“When I turned professional I only weighed 60 kilos and I’ve had to put some weight on because you can’t last on the flat as a pro when you’re at that kind of weight,” Formolo said.

Lol, he should have a chat with Sky. That's their USP: somehow rip their top riders to shreds but enable them to still blow people away in the TTs.
