It's seems as though Oleg has switched from yesterday's "Ride like Sky" strategy to today's "Ride like T-Mobile"

Astana now at the front of the peloton and look a bit more keen...

What a race. Peloton down to what?.. 35 riders?

    Matthews blowing up

Peloton shredded, 3 Sky, 2 TS still there, Matthews gone.

    TBH it's all kicked off!

Loving the Astana slo-mo as they shred the peloton.

    Astana pacing the peloton.

    Very good to watch!

Contador and Rogers left from Tinkoff, 4 Sky riders there too.

Contador has Rogers, Porte has Nieve and Konig, Uran is there and Astana still drilling it.

Rampant speculation based on practically nothing - Porte not looking great?

    This is great stuff!

I'm still kind of new to the tactics of this. Is this just a great tactical move by Astana to up the speed? Tinkoff have been on the front for most of the race so far, and now it's just Mick and Contador. Have the rest of them just blown?

Best to ask that at the end ;)

Well, yes. There is no one dangerous in the break though as they wouldn't have let them go? I'm not sure why they are pushing so hard in a stage like this where the break looks like it'll succeed?

Obviously the course design has played its part, and should be applauded, but how much of this is also down to OGE having the maglia rosa? They have kind of shown an indifference in the way they have defended it at the start of stages, putting riders in the breaks rather than being on the front. I know they have shown in the past, TdF 2013 that they are happy to share the Yellow around the team instead of having the one guy in it. Giving Chaves and Clark a chance today by the looks of it.

Maybe a TTT early on is a good call excitement wise as it gives so many more options to the defending team providing they aren't after GC

I'm not sure why we really need to guess why Tinkoff don't want Bert in pink this early. Who wants to have to defend the jersey for the GC favourite that long. They can give it to Kreuziger and then loose it if needed or hand it over to Bert later but there's a difference defending it for Contador and defending it for Kreuziger.

Bertie has Kreuziger up front remember...

When do we find out if Kreuziger is actually riding in this race? Is it a couple of weeks?

In other news Levanto would be a lovely place if it wasn't for all the poo in the sea.

I don't know, from the little we've seen of him he looks reasonably comfortable, just sitting in?

I saw a tiny clip of him looking like he was struggling a bit to keep the gap closed. To be fair it was probably nothing - just a 2 second shot with no context.

Many spare parts up the road for GC attacks on last climb. Just saying.

Blown to pieces now. The GC group is a pretty small peloton. Aggressive riding by many of the GC teams.
