Good news for the GB women's sprint setup. Power house Shanaze Read ditching BMX for Rio.

If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -

Jolanda Neff has had a storming start but is being chased by my future wife Pauline Ferrand Prevot in her first (??) XC World Cup. Have a watch of some proper cycling!
Immediately noticeable that Neff is much more comfortable that PFP on the technical sectionsWe're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Ah. I'm glad this has re-emerged. I couldn't find it earlier.
Was just going to raise the question of Vos and her injuries. Seems that her season has taken a real knock and wonder whether we'll see the same level of dominance again. I'm guessing not...0 -
Injuries aside, I'm sure I read Vos was concentrating on the Mountain biking this season to try to qualify for the Olympic Mountain bike race at Rio0
-
Vos was trying to qualify for Rio in MTB and had won a race at the start of April but broke rib(s) at end of April and still finished 16th in WC MTB race - taking longer to get back than she thought and has now rejigged her programme for the year.0
-
Lizzie Armitstead won stage 1 of the Aviva Women's Tour but she crashed after the finish line.
Highlights are on ITV4 tonight at 8pm. Highlights of each stage are on each night on ITV4 at the same time.0 -

Video of the crash. Not easy to see what happened but it look like she just drifted into someone or something inside the barriers (the TV cameraman?)

Yeah she hasnt raced a World Cup yet. PFP has nt exactly ripped up the ones she's done either (though I suppose "only" third at Nove Mesto is hardly a bad start)
Fingers and Toes crossed for Lizzie, it looked horrible
Edit - better angle here - http://www.itv.com/news/2015-06-17/lizzie-armitstead-rushed-to-hospital-following-crash-moments-after-she-won-first-stage-of-womens-tour/ - looks like she hits the Race Organiser!! Doesnt look like she hit her head so hopefully it's nothing really horribleWe're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Looks like she went for the victory celebration and lost control......
Hope she's ok - I am a fan of Lizzie0 -
yeah because apportioning blame is really what's important about that right now...

Apportioning blame or just trying to understand how it happened? I'm interested to know how it happened. It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -

Looks to me like a bit of a wobble as she went to put her hands back on the bars (slight unevenness in the road surface, perhaps?) and not enough space to correct herself in. Bad luck is my guess, rather than bad bike handling - I just hope nobody's too badly hurt.0 -
From the video I saw it looked like Mick Bennett and the photographers were a bit close to the line but they should have been easily visible. Lizzie only appeared to raise her hands on or just after the line and didn't get them back down in time to steer away from them. That was a front on shot though so hard to judge the distances.0

Headline from Cycling News "Armitstead released from hospital with no life-threatening injuries"
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/armitstead-released-from-hospital-with-no-life-threatening-injuries
Now I know the NHS can be a bit ropey at times but they don't release people with life threatening injuries.

BBC Radio 5 have reported that she's out of hospital and back at the the team hotel. She may even start tomorrow.
Now that would be impressive.

That would be Mick Bennett, highly experienced race organiser and ex-Olympic cyclist.0 -
Sure. But had she keep anything like her line she'd have easily missed him. Bad bike handling.
You've got a bunch sprint across the whole width of the road then some geriatric fool flapping his arms around in front of riders. Someone is going to hit him, either Armistead as he was in her line or the riders to her left. Where are they supposed to go. They need to serious review their finish line safety.BASI Nordic Ski Instructor

Seriously, are you watching the same footage. 'Where are they supposed to go' - hmmmm, straight on perhaps

Looks more like he was trying to move the photographers but didn't do it in time.0
-
She could see them, swerved into them as she was putting her hands back on the bars to make sure she went around them. I expect she's a better bike handler than most people who'd comment but she did cock this up. Shame.
Daft organisers not having those photographers out of the way earlier, but photographers after a shot aren't gonna listen. Again, tazers are the answer.0
