Fyffes is just a clearing house (see Rule 463, Clause 8, Subsection C, Paraphrase 9).

    Is that third one Rapha?
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Maybe the OP should have looked a little deeper into the title, given the content of the thread it's questionable if you replace Rapha with cycling

My local club likes you to wear the club kit which is a real shame as Ive enjoyed riding out with them a couple of times but wearing club colours doesn't appeal. That said the club is growing nicely and looks after novices really well and has a good reputation.

    From the Rapha club book...

Para 3.1 Riders (male) are requested to have 2 days worth of stubble at all times.
3.2 Rides should ideally take place in misty weather conditions. Cyclists should stop occasionally to allow accumulated moisture to drip atmospherically from the peak of their alpaca-leather casquette.
3.3 ALL rides MUST take place in isolated, mountainous locations with no other traffic present. If this is not possible club members must move house and live in a secluded valley in the Dolomites or Pyrenees.
3.4 All club rides must be conducted in black and white with several sections ridden in slow motion.

    ...possibly

I think this whole discussion summarises cycling and life in general up, there are some people on here who are the kind of people who like structure and order and gain a sense of belonging and identity from being part of a club and think everyone else is missing some gene by not wanting the same, then there is everyone else who just gets on with their life.

Why do you feel those two groups are mutually exclusive..?

So are people in clubs the one's with the loaded guns or the spades???

    tmg Posts: 651
Oh and they are mutually exclusive because the ones who are in clubs think there is something wrong with those who aren't and at any opportunity feel the need to tell everyone who isnt in a club why they should be but fail to understand that is normally the very reason why said people are not in such a club

Thanks for clearing that up. Nice and clear now.

For the record, I've never told anyone they should be in a club - I just like to see good, sound reasoning for whatever choice people make, not misconceptions.

The "Oh they all force you to wear club kit" (they don't) angle being a particularly good example on this thread.

  • Why do the vast majority of UK club kits look like they’ve been designed by people who have no design skills. They just look embarrassing!

You need to consider peoples perspectives, so the people who make such comments as "Oh they all force you to wear club kit" may have only ever come into contact with clubs who have that stance, there are also those people who like to make sweeping statements. But does it really matter?

I'm not part of a club (as you can probably tell) but have come into direct contact with good and bad clubs/club members, but I can say the same for other "un affiliated" cyclists who can be classified as having good and bad attitudes towards other cyclists

It matters in the sense that the 'all' bit is clearly wrong. They don't 'all' do that. Some evidently do, but don't use it as a reason to discourage others - whose local clubs might be completely different.

You have to question the persons logic if they were to be discouraged from joining a cycling club by such a comment without even validating the statement to be true relative to the club they were thinking of joining

Its noble of you to try and save such people from a life without a non uniform enforcing cycle club

As I and others have repeatedly said on this thread (maybe you missed it) - I couldn't give a fvck if those people join clubs or not. It's only the reasoning I have a problem with.

It appears another 'exclusive' club has opened for business. Quite like the idea, but one night near Chatsworth and two 50 mile rides for £450, or two nights in Italy for £1250 (flights not included) -

Edit: it would help if i put a link in  http://www.montem.cc/
