What do you mean by fitting your inner tubes? Do you mean you had trouble getting the tyres back on?
  • For me tubeless sounds like it wouldnt suit. Yes, its harder to get a puncture, but you can still get them, and fixing that at the side of the road would be a nightmare. They are also more expensive, and thats provising you have tubeless ready wheels

Don't people who run tubeless just tend to stick an inner tube in if they get a puncture that the sealant won't fix?

I didn't actually think of that. It will still be harder to put the tyre back on. And they are still a lot more expensive. I just cant fault clinchers, and I run a very high pressure anyway. Obviously my opinion might change if I actually tried them but so far, I struggle to see the benefits for me.

Yeah, getting the tyres back on. It was so tight it bent one of my tyre levers.

I've got my first puncture :-(
Had to take the ice-spiked-tyre bike this morning even though it wasn't too cold. I just hope that the combo of WTB rims and Continental tyres aren't too hard to get on/off!
  • I have the standard PX CX disc wheels and I tend to not even need to use tyre levers to get the tyre back on

Just did mine (3 times actually, as my pre-glued patches don't seem to be sticky any more  ) and couldn't believe how easy they were to get on and off! Definitely the easiest wheels I've ever had for getting tyres on/off :)

  • Stopped off in the park after picking my son up from nursery last night, thought she looked rather fetching:

I'm looking forward to getting mine loaded up with the Ortliebs in a couple of months for a mini-tour, but it's been short/medium rides into the Kent countryside up to now, with the odd bit of A-to-B pottering. Found a nice day for it last week. 700 miles on the clock so far.

  • Mine went back to PX because of a rattle in the frame I cant find, and the back wheel keeps coming loose, even with a really good internal cam skewer. Getting the bus to work is a nightmare. Im hoping it is a frame issue and I get a new one, because I do not feel safe on that bike.

Hmm - I had a problem with a loose back wheel on mine, but I put it down to me being a numpty and not tightening up the QR sufficiently. I've checked it regularly since and it's not recurred, so in my case I think it was just user error.

I did a 20 mile ride on Saturday incorporating a greenway along a disused railway line. Lots of fun, and loving being able to do rides that incorporate on and off road sections, but I think I spent longer cleaning the bike afterwards than I did riding it.

Disc wheels under heavy load and braking will slightly pull the wheel away from the droupouts. You have to make sure you tighten the QR skewers very securely. The QR levers you get as stock from PX will likely be their cheap external cam and they should be chucked in the bin. I was advised to stick with good shimano internal cam QR's which I had in the house. However, it too came loose.

I had my first proper long ride on my London Road this weekend. I did the 65 mile hilly sportive The Rawlinson Bracket on it. Did briefly consider taking my Pro Carbon when the forecast was for it to be completely dry, but I was glad of the 37C tyres on my London Road while riding over dodgy roads and while descending Edgehill at 40 mph during a brief cloud burst.

Rode in a group with 3 friends who were on more traditional road bikes most of the day and didn't have any problems keeping up, including beating everyone to the top of the last significant hill of the day. All in all I really enjoyed it for that sort of ride.

How did the disc brakes hold up after 65 miles? Did you get any rub on the rotors?

Nothing that I noticed, although I can't rule out the possibility that I was too tired to notice towards the end.

After the brief shower I did frighten the crap out of a few people (including myself) a couple of times with screeching brakes.

Been itching to build mine up since getting the frame and will soon happen. Off work as of 18:00 Tuesday for 9 days so have the time to do it finally.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I saw the zest lime frame is £149. I could be tempted to buy it and swap the components over from my black frame

You know you want to - it's so green!

I was wearing a red jacket on Sunday and someone commented that I looked like a bottle of mountain dew

    "Cons:

    Tyres could be better [replaced]
Gear range is a little limited [erm... get the one with two chain rings on the front??]"

Sorted. Looks like I've got the perfect bike then!

Got roped into a ride with a bunch of guys from work last weekend. Decided to give myself the best chance of keeping up so fitted a pair of Michelin Lithion 2 (25's). Fun getting on but great on the day. Will leave them on for now and swap back to wider tyres once I get back to commuting.

Currently there are 3 wheel choices available for the London Road. All can be added to the bike for the same price.

Fulcrum Racing Sport Disc Clincher Wheelset
    Weight: 1872g
    Planet X RRP: £150

WTB ST I19 TCS Rim On Selcof Comp Disc Hubs
    Weight: 1935 grams
    Planet X RRP: £200

Vision Team 30 Disc Road 6 Bolt Wheelset

    Planet X RRP: £250

Any thoughts on which to go for. Any to avoid? Id like to go tubeless in the long run

Of the 3 listed, the only ones that state in their specs that they can be adapted to run tubeless are the WTB i19 wheels.

    http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/WBI19SCD/w ... -disc-hubs

The Fulcrum and Vision wheels appear to be clincher only although that's not to say that you might be able to achieve a tubeless seal if you are lucky.

There's not a lot to choose between them based on the published weights but the Fulcrum brand might carry a bit more kudos than either of the other two. Don't think you'll go too wrong whichever you choose.
