Ok, Quintana was adjusting shoe strap then into a corner with a steel crash barrier, ran wide, bike hit one of the crash barrier verticals, went clean over the handle bars. The back wheel slid out and hit the crash barrier vertical.

  • 58 Kg, a disc wheel and a narrow descent... bad combination

  • That could well be the end of his Vuelta chances.

They are saying he has lost at least a minute and half already.

His own fault for fiddling with his shoes on an exposed, twisty downhill with a disc on the back ... He corrected his line but the rear wouldn't come back.
Life is unfair, kill yourself or get over it.

Wonder if he can keep it together for rest of the stage. Might manage to limit losses as doesn't appear to be badly injured.

    Contador 40secs up on Froome?
  • Poor guy. If he is not seriously hurt (didnt look like it). Then he is going to go mental in the mountains. I bet Valverde and Movistar are pleased Valverde rode smart and is in proper contention.

  • Fear he'll lose 4-5 minutes now...

He had finished fiddling with the shoe well before the turn, I think that's irrelevant

    Quintana 2:25 down on Contador.

Contador's Vuelta to lose now it is looking like what with him knocking time into Froome and Froome generally not as on fire this race?

(SUCH a shame Bikeradar keeps saying Connection to Server has been reset ...fire someone in IT is the solution :) ).

    What a capture.

And the guy is back up and firing. Wow.

    +2.25 to Contador.

Looks like it at this point

Very technical course, predictably he is been let down by his bike handling skills

  • Uran only 15 seconds behind Martin.

  • Froome getting smoked. Km30 he is +1.01 in 12th.

I'd imagine that the number of times he's been on the deck this season is making him a lot more tentative than he would have been normally!

Froome not judging his speed into corners at all well so losing too much momentum

Looks like that unless Contador has a really bad day (and let's face it, he's only likely to improve) then it's his to lose from now on. Quintana will lose 2 mins + today and not sure he can make up that sort of deficit and I can't see Valverde doing more than podium.

Might make for some interesting stages in the mountains though...

Uran only 15 seconds behind Martin.

Giro TT wasn't a fluke even though he too a lot of stick for it.

I don't just mean today. Other day he sat with a sky train he couldn't quite stick with.
