Bada bum tish.
Big Mig is a true heavyweight legend, in more ways than one!0 -
Selective terrain. Mouth-watering finish (see the Condé preview). Riders unleashed. What this race needs is a Sagan win in a chaotic classic.

I really must be growing as a person.
(Any KOM points for those pair?)
Hmm, yes. Only see that when quoting your post you couldn't resist the sexist remark.
If you look closely you'll see she's not naked - she has a thong and shoes. More a green Jersey contender than GC rider. No points for no jersey I guess. Notice also the bike is not carbon. A wise choice in the circumstances. Is the picture actually anywhere near Oyonnax - well clearly its a question of relative rather than absolute.

Shenanigans. Shurely.
Côte d'Échallon is the most difficult one of the categorized climbs today. It’s steepest at the beginning, which makes it a great place to test your fellow escapees. There are only 20 km to go from the top, but if the riders think the struggles are over at this point, they will be in for a big surprise!

Where are the Cote de Shenanigans. How big are they?0 -
TimB34 wrote:Ooo, they're passing near to Sainte-Claude - a typically Jura-esque town that rather oddly specialises in the production and trading of pipes and diamonds.
The whole of that end of the Jura is deceptive - there are lots of north-south roads that follow the valleys and have long, gentle gradients, but then if you try and cross between valleys it's hairpins and steepness. The last 50km of the stage looks like it's going to shred the peloton into pieces. Breakway to be swept up by a rampaging J-Rod?
They're also passing through the small area where Bleu de Gex (also known as Bleu de Septmoncel) is produced. Most cheese production in the Jura is fairly ordinary Comté/Tomme/Reblochon but there are a few interesting cheeses like this one:
More cheeses:
Comté is named after the region. It is made in flat circular discs, each between 40 and 70 centimetres in diameter, and around 10 centimetres in height. Each weighs up to 50 kg. The fat content is around 45%.The rind is usually a dusty-brown colour, and the internal pâte is a pale creamy yellow. The texture is relatively hard and flexible, and the taste is strong and slightly sweet.
Cancoillote is made from melting pure metton with a bit of water. It is almost fat- and calories-free (therefore good for diets, as it can be a good calcium provider without the fat)
Morbier is a semi-soft cows' milk cheese of France named after the small village of Morbier in Franche-Comté. It is ivory colored, soft and slightly elastic, and is immediately recognizable by the black layer of tasteless ash separating it horizontally in the middle. It has a rind that is yellowish, moist, and leathery.
Mont d'or is a soft, rich, seasonal cheese made from cow's-milk in Switzerland or France. It has a grayish-yellow washed rind and typically contains 45 to 50 percent milk fat (in dry matter). It is produced between August 15 and March 15, and sold between September 10 and May 10. It is marketed in round boxes of various diameters made of spruce. It is often served warmed in its original packaging and eaten like a fondue.0 -

...and more wines:
Other wine styles found in the Jura includes a vin de paille made from Chardonnay, Poulsard and Savagnin, a sparkling Crémant du Jura made from slightly unripe Chardonnay grapes, and a vin de liqueur known as Macvin du Jura made by adding marc to halt fermentation.
The town of Pontarlier was famous for the production of absinthe until its ban in 1915. With the ban partially lifted in the 1990s, distilleries are once again producing absinthe in Pontarlier.0 -

I really want to eat cheese and drink wine. OK on the cheese front but I don't think I can start on the wine at 12.50pm, well at least not until I've filled in the PTP spreadsheet. No I must not. I'm supposed to be simultaneous translating the end of the stage from Dutch to English in my Dutch lesson this afternoon because my teacher would rather watch the Tour than do boring exercises, which if fijn with me but I'm not sure wine would help, then again it might...
Maybe I'll take a bottle of wine and we can sit around the table and pretend we're on Avondetappe.

Vin de paille is a particularly interesting local speciality: it translates as "straw wine" and is a sweet wine made from grapes that have been dried on straw mats to intensify both sugar and acidity. Although not exclusive to the Jura, this is the wine's main area of production.0 -
